When I received my new SS Kobra I felt proud.
Upon disassembly I noticed scratches behind the
slide release, as if it had been rubbing against the frame.
Also the trigger had a deep scratch.
I called and explained. I paid for shipping, for re-finishing
the frame and new trigger.
Today I received the pistol and I noticed a scratch on
left side of the slide. Again I called and was told to send
it back, this time shipping only the frame. I,m hoping not have to pay
for re-finishing this time.

Man , I'd be upset ! How long have you had it ? I personally seem to scratch everything I touch ( I'm not saying you did it or are in anyway responsible for them ) . Hows that for a disclaimer . Is paying for shipping standard practice industry wide ? I'm sorry to hear about your troubles .

I've had for about five weeks, most of the time though,
back in the shop.
I am hoping to get it back in good shape and to see if
really i can start enjoying it.
I would send them the frame and the slide stop. There is obviously something at the rear of the slide stop that's scratching the frame. It should be removed or it will scratch it again.

Words of wisdom - good call.
Not to change the subject, but that is why I purchased my KC in HC. The blued guns are nice, but I would rather have some sort of polymer coating for scratch protection. My SA TRP has a indestructible finish of some sort, tough as heck. Also, they just don't blue guns like they use to - when I see some old Colt Commercials and how nice bluing used to be - its a shame.

The old blueing techniques are too hazardous to do so you can't get em done that way in the states anymore. I know what you mean. I have a few custom shop Colt 1911's from the mid 60's and they are almost purplish black. It is a joy to look at.
