View Full Version : tabbed browsing broken

something's changed recently that breaks tabbed browsing (mac/safari). my usual routine is to bring up the page of new posts since last visit, and cmd-click each topic i'll want to read so that it opens in its own tab, then read the tabs one by one. this lets me have things loading in the background while i'm reading something else.
lately, when i do this the clicked topic opens in its own tab as it should, but the original topic list page *also* goes to the topic as if i'd followed the link directly. i have to keep backing out of it. really annoying.
I have indeed changed something, which allows you to click anywhere in the box of a post/thread, to open that box, instead of just on the thread/post name. It makes selecting what you want to see, easier. I tested it with every PC browser (Firefox, Netscape and IE) without any problems. So it should be some bug within Safari.
Where is your cursor when you do the Cmd-Click? Is it on the thread title or just inside the box? Try doing it on the exact link you want to open. Also, if possible, try downloading the latest version of your browser, if this is available. If everything else fails, we'll go back to the standard procedure, or I'll derive something especially for you.

i'm clicking on the actual link. cmd-clicking elsewhere in the box does follow the link, but does not open a new tab. i see the same behavior under firefox on the mac, maybe its a mac thing instead of a safari thing?

Just a note to those of you with macs using explorer: microsoft has dropped explorer support for all macs, this means no updates! I have macs at work, and the forum does not "work" correctly when using safari!! I use explorer through my mac to surf the web, but it is getting increasingly difficult to navigate. My mac is only 1yr old too!! I dont have any answers for your safari problem, although I can say that I tried to do what you were doing and it doesnt work correctly for me either (as John said, it must be a safari problem). So I will stick with explorer, or download netscape (if I can). ...jeep...

safari has always worked like a dream on this site for me, still does. it's just the recent change in some link-following code that i was questioning.

Sounds like its time to ditch Safari and switch to Firefox or Mozilla. ;)

OK, can you please try your cmd-click thing now and let me know if it works as it used to be? I revert that change, so everything should be back to normal again.

it's working fine now on safari and ff on my mac. this is your own bulletin board code? it's really pleasant to use.

So I assume we are back to normal as far as Mac users are concerned, right? OK, I'll leave it that way.
My code? No, it is vBulletin actually, but this site must be the heaviest-patched one it exists. Too much code changed to make it what it is today.
