Jim,
IMHO the frame and slide are not original to each other. While late RRand production was known to be a lighter grey than other years of production, I can only assume the darker slide is from much earlier production, or has possibly been refinished.

The serial no of the frame if from late production 45, the slide mark is Type 3 Slide: Observed from approximately 980000 to end of production. RR legend is shorter then the slide stop. so slide is from the last type seen on this production.
There is a darker tone to the slide than the frame but the photos make it look more of a differance than in natural light. Not saying the farme and slide are original to each other just that the photos make it look much worse than it really is. I believe they are from the same general era anyway. any other thoughts?

I have 2.145 in original finish and the slide and frame are exactly the same color, about like your frame. The small parts are supposed to be dark, too, almost like they were blued. http://www.huntingpictures.net/photo/003342

Hope you did not think I was saying the slide is original to the frame, I was just saying that the slide and frame seem to be from the same general era of manufacture.
The slide and the frame from what I can tell are all original remington rand. What is the value of a gun all original usgi but with a differant slide and frame fromt the same maker and era? I paid 850 for it. Did I pay value? to much or a bargin? thanks.

Don't necessarily think that the slide and frame are not original to each other.
I have an RR, 1384XXX, that is also a mismatch color; about like yours. My frame, however, has a decidedly green cast to it.
This subject of RR color mismatch has been discussed on this, and other, forums before. I do not believe that there is consensus that this is an indicator of a mismatch.
The mismatch may be due to storage method and age...
or, may be old DCM issued pieces that had been arsenal refinished but not marked...

According to Clawson, the only exception to Original Finish Rule #1, is when Colt were changing over from Parkerizing to Parko-Lubrite in 1945. This serial number range has been identified by Ordnance and the Mfr. In this case, color was really not an issue, as was the finer surface grain on the Parko-Lubrite.
