I went earlier this week to the outdoor range near my house, and then yesterday to the NRA range...couple of observations...(4.25" 1911sc)

I had a shock buff in the weapon for the first 100 rounds...in that time I had 3 FTF and 3 FTE problems...I took the shok buff out, and there were 0 feed issues for the remaining 300 rounds....i know there can be problems with shok buffs in commander length barrels, this would appear to be the case here too

And magazines...I had: 2 8 round kimbers, 2 7 round wilson, 1 7 round colt, an 8 round chip mccormick, and an 8 round armcor/novak...

I didnt like the way the kimbers fed, and moved in and out of the frame so i ditched them...none of the 7 round mags would lock the slide back on the final round, and the other two 8 rounders worked fine...i am a little disappointed in the wilson mags, but im sure it just has to do with mag size...

it shot like a dream, very accurate...i was using federal and winchester ammo, 230 gr...there was a lot of powder residue, so much so i had to clean the front site to see it better....

at any rate, im sold, very impressed with it...i need to get a full sized 1911 at some point, and will seriously consider a 5" SW when i eventually go buy it...

Glad to hear the Sc did well. I just got back from the range with my new SW1911. What a dream. Very accurate, nice grip and 0 problems of any kind. Shot S&B and Blazer aluminum. What a great feeling to have a relatively expensive product work better than expected.

Just curious...did the Shoc Buff come installed or did you install it before you shot it?

Hard to answer that...I bought the gun used through a buddy...it was a wilson shok buff so my guess is it is a post purchase addition...i doubt s&w installs wilson parts...

Hearing very good things about the 1911's from S&W. I have not had the opportunity to see/feel it. I would imagine if it's anything like the revolvers they make it should be a outstanding auto. :)

First off, Im new here, so hello.

Now, I just bought a SW1911Sc of my own. I have had several Glocks and Rugers and one 1911 in the past, but I fell in love with this gun from just picking it up. It shocked me how light it was first off. Then, since the gun shop belongs to a good friend of mine, I got to take it out back and try it out. At 7 yards (which is usually where I start testing one at), there was just one rough hole. So I had to have it after that. The gun has a great feel to it, very accurate, and the fit and finish seems great (atleast to me, Im no 1911 expert though). I compared Slide to Frame fit with a couple of Colts and some TRP Springfields (read:$1000+) that were there, and they seem pretty equal in that respect.

I shot it a little more yesterday, and Im no marksman by any means, but I was pleased. 16 rounds in a 2" group at 7 yards using 230gr Blazer Aluminum. Going to take it out tomorrow and try some double tap practice and such. Can't wait.

Yup. Same as my experience with my '283. First day at the range I was with a friend who didn't like 1911s because every one of them needed tweaking to run. He changed his tune completely after watching me go through 200 rounds w/o a single failure. That was 5-6 weeks ago. Now, the gun has had > 800 rounds through it. All a mix of cheap range ammo, warm 230 gn ball, cool 200 grain LSWCs, and about 100 home rolled (and hot) Gold Dots. This thing hasn't skipped a beat and has already become my main carry piece. I'm still trying to figure out what the actual break in period is supposed to be.

And it's just as accurate as it has been reliable.

Congratulations on your purchase. They very nice pistols and should serve you well. Hmmm - I wonder if your buddy got rid of it because he didn't like the reliability, not realizing it was caused by that after market shock buffer?

I hope to get one this weekend at a show in Orlando. I want the 1911sc PD#108283. I founded one for $855.00. It is the bill board side. Are these bill board makings still in production or are they all gone? Any help Thanks. Trio good range report. :)

I don't think they produce the billboard version any longer. I believe you can still find (maybe quite a few) NOS billboard 1911s though.

Thanks Janitor. I found one new in the box for $855 I thought that might be a little high. I can get the PD for $750 at the gun show. They are the same gun as near as I can tell. Does anyone know for sure? I can also get the PD with laser sight for $850 at the show. Any help will be many thanks. ;)

You're welcome Baldy.

And yes ... $855 seems high, esp for a discontinued model. As near as I can tell, the SW1911PD is the same gun with different cosmetics. Witness that they both have the same sku #. The $750 you can find at gunshows is a far more reasonable price for it. And $850 for the one with laser is a good deal (imo).

Here's the one I have (http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=11101&storeId=10001&productId=14719&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=15709&isFirearm=Y), which is also the one I suspect you're looking at.

Shot mine some more today. I love this gun. I shot this target 8 times from 7 yards, and 8 times from 15 yards (standing offhand). While not perfect, Im very happy.

I would say the accuracy and reliability you have experienced is about right. I got one of the early "billboard" ones and it is still going strong at 2K rounds and coming up on a couple years.

These pistols (and I have a Colt XSE LW Commander that does the same thing) are amazing because when you shoot them over sand-bags at 25 yards you have to shoot groups of just a few rounds or go out to 50 yards if the facility allows it. Otherwise you get a big hole that is kind of meaningless. Full size target pistols have done that for years but for a lightweight pistol in a Commander size package to do it is neat. It probably says a lot about modern machining techniques and it wouldn't surprise me if offerings from Kimber, SA, Para etc. would do the same. If I win the lottery maybe I can find out.

Hey Janitor that's the one I want for sure. As I have laser sites on my cc SP-101 and they have helped a bunch I think I am going to get the one with them. I don't know as I love rosewood grips on a blued gun. Oh me. Dakota says the bill board has been out a few years. Well then $855 is a little high. Thanks Dakota for the info. Tang419 that sure is a good look'in gun. Thanks to all who has helped me make up my mind. :D

You won't be dissapointed with your choice. The PD is a great pistol, and you might find it will displace your SP-01 as your ccw piece. It may not carry as many rounds, but it's lighter, narrower, and leaves bigger holes. :)

The only reason I didnt pick up the PD, is because Ive had so many dark guns. I needed something brighter.

. Tang419 that sure is a good look'in gun.

Thank you. It has quickly became my favortie.
