Hi

I have norinco commander and sum how sum where lost the orginal slide stop pin.
Went out bought CMC slide stop installed in gun fired one round and link broke at slide stop pin hole.
Went out fitted a number 3 dawnson precision link;fired one round and slide stop broke.
Any ideas or thoughts of my mistakes.

Just for my info anyone out there has norinco commander or standard can you measure your link size and diameter of slide stop pin.

The CMC SS measures .197 inches.I cant remember where i read or just might be making a mistake that the norinco slide stop pin is .156 inches or so.
I have a feeling that the orginal link is a number 2.

thank you for any help.

Tuner & stans have a better cyber bench than I do in this area, I need to see the gun..........

But the .156" you refer to is for the link pin, not the slide stop pin. The stock link should be the standard .278"

Some makers mark their links differently, but the stock .278" link should be a #3

Sounds like you've got stem bind and/or the barrel is riding the link.

Get yourself a #3 .278" link, and another slide stop. Most aftermarket stop pins will measure out at .200", which helps with good lock up.

Place the barrel in the bare frame, then insert the slide stop with it hanging down toward the trigger guard. Hold the slide stop, then move the barrel from in battery (up) to linkdown position. While doing this check to see that the slide stop moves freely. If not, you've got some bind and the barrel is riding the link.

Let me know what you come up with, and we'll go from there.

I would first buy a quality slide stop for the gun from Brownells, stock diameter will work just fine. Your problem is most likely the length of the barrel link which can be easily diagnosed. Remove the slide and barrel and re install only the barrel in the frame with the link held in place by the slide stop. Push the barrel all the way to the rear so that it should be resting against the frame in full recoil, lying on the barrel bed portion of the frame. With pressure on the muzzle, forcing the barrel to the rear against the frame, you should be able to easily remove the slide stop from the frame; it should not be under any tension. If there is tension on the slide stop, i.e. it is difficult to remove from the frame, it is too short. Every time the barrel moves to the rear during the firing cycle, it is stopped by the link instead of impacting the frame as intended. This wear and tear will soon break the link as it isn't strong enough to endure this amount of abuse; the barrel must come to rest against the frame. A longer link will allow the barrel to come to rest against the frame, rather than the slide stop, but you can only go so far. A SLIGHTLY longer link may work, and is worth a try, but you must be careful that the longer link doesn't lift the barrel too high as the slide goes into battery. A link that is too long can prevent the slide/barrel from going into battery. If the (slightly) longer link doesn't work, the only solution is to remove metal from the barrel bed where the barrel comes to rest in full recoil which is a job for a gunsmith. I know, because I encountered this problem with a Para P-16 and was forced to remove metal from the barrel bed as a long barrel link alone wouldn't solve the problem.

i did buy a CMC stainless steel slide stop from brownells,is CMC not good quality and it meaured .197/8 inches.

I washed the gun today and if you look at the frame from top into the barrel bed there is a keyway cut, which the link rides in during cycling(correct me if i am wrong) at the backend closest to throat i see at top egde of key way there is two dings.i think the two marks might be caused by edge of bottom barrel lug or link possibily.

Wichaka yes the slide stop comes out easily.

Yes i have to go to gunsmith but with you guys help i can go him and ask the right questions.

thank you for your help.

Hi guys

I got a wilson extended slide stop and it is .198 inches.I did the test you guys sugested and with the dawson precision no3 link the slide stop is tight and does come out easily. Then fitted a wilson no3 link and the slide stop comes out with slight tighness pullable with one hand;far more easier than with dawson precision no3.

Then also fitted the dawson precision no3 link to a friends norinco full size the slide stop does not remove easily, fitted the wilson and it comes out easily.

do you guys think i should try a no4 to get the slide stop looser with more easy removal.

thank you

Take the barrel and put the slide stop thru the link and move it the radius, watching if it touches the barrel lug on the swing of the radius.

If it doesn't touch, then go ahead and try a #4 link and do the same test as I posted earlier, by putting the slide stop thru the link while the barrel is set in the frame. Push the barrel to bed.........against the frame and see how well the slide stop is free. I would not go anymore than the #4, if it's still causing problems, then there's something not in spec.
