1500 rds. of Winchester hollow point ?

Is my stash of Winchester white box hollow point ammo not viable for use in my RR framed/Colt slide 1945 USGI .45 (Or can I do simple mods that will not devalue the weapon or drasticly change it's originality to use ammo other than ball ) (I have 500 rounds of Remington green box non-hp so all is not lost)

I along with many others have GI models that routinely feed HP's.

I take it that you've tried to use HP's thru your gun?, but they won't feed?

ATTEMPTED with one mag (have 6 various mags to try) and it would not chamber in two trys ,so I continued shooting with ball ammo ... But now that I'm wanting to use all of my ammo (Future Ca. handgun ammo purchasing issues to look forward to) I'm willing to polish a feed ramp or buy a different mag (But switching barrels is not the direction I wish to go at this juncture) So some USGI WW2 .45's are happy straight away with other than ball ammo ??? :appld:

Explain exactly the position of the round when the gun jams.

meh, I'd shoot it some more with ball and see if it doesn't break in after awhile. Then I think if I were you and it still didn't feed, I'd sell all the ammo to me at a ridiculously low price...:D

Gator, it depends how the gun is jamming on the HPs.

Pictures of the jam or a very detailed description of the slide and round position at the time of the jam would help a lot. For example are the rounds hanging up on the barrel ramp or where?

If you look at a commercial Colt you will see the feed ramp on the frame is effectively the same as on a GI gun. I wouldn't polish the frame feed ramp. The barrel ramp is different to help feed wad cutters and other shapes such as HPs. This is not a polishing issue the shape is different when originally made.
You cannot change a GI barrel to the commercial barrel ramp shape.

With respect to magazines, what types of mags do you have now? Hybrid feed lips found on genuine Colt 7 round mags or Checkmate mags may help as well. Cobra mags with a higher feed position may, may help as well.

If you're happy with the deal, ain't no mistake IMO. Trading something you can't use for something you can always works for me.
