I am new to this forum. My WWII 1911 has developed a problem. When fired, it will not extract or feed a new round. I know I need assistance in locating a gunsmith. A famous Houston area gunsmith says he doesn't work on such pieces of junk as my WWII Ithaca 1911, only "high quality"
pieces he builds. If anyone knows of one in East Texas, please advise. Thank you in advance.

That "smith" wouldn't be over in Sugarland would he?

Remove the extractor and stick it into the channel butt-first with the hook facing left. Put your thumb against the middle and use your index finger to put a tiny amount of bend in it. Easy! Too much and it won't feed.

The extractor needs to put a little tension on the case rim in order to extract reliably. To check it, slip a live round under the hook to the center of the breechface. The round should require a little pressure to go. Shake the slide up and down a few times...not gently, but not too hard either. It should stay put. If that doesn't do the trick, shoot me a PM. I'll be offline for about a week starting tomorrow.

Your Ithaca isn't junk, and if the "smith's" initials are TJ, you can tell him I said I'd rather have your WW2 Ithaca than anything he's ever
"built"...and be sure and mention my name. :D

Thanks, but my ability isn't what it used to be, therefore I need a smith, and you are correct about the initials.

I figgered it... I just sent you an E-mail. I'll help you get it squared away. Your problem is simple, and one that can be corrected in about 5 minutes unless the extractor is worn out or broken...15 minutes to replace and tweak it if it is.

Yeah...He's a real sweetheart, ain't he?

I think that anything he doesn't feel like he can fix, he labels junk...like somebody else we know... :D :D

I've offered to fix the gun for our newest member as a way of sayin': Welcome aboard! Ya'll sing out and let him know that my offer is legit
so he'll send me that slide! I got the fastest turnaround time in the country.
In one day...Out the next. :p

I want that ol Ithaca to run like a Greyhound for the man!

Tuner is a very smart guy,not only about 1911's but many other things as well. He is great just to sit and talk with over the kitchen table with a cup of TURBO.
He also has a way of explaining how things work, why they don't work and how to fix them.
He has a top-notch lady(KELIE),very pretty and they both have a lot in common.
My wife and I visited them and had a great time(TOO SHORT THOUGH).Hope to repeat the visit soon. :D

Hey Tuner, nice to have you back partner. How is the new house going? Settling in I assume?

And yes, gentlemen, if I lived in US I would fully trust Tuner to take care of my babies (metallic or not) and that says a lot for the man. Now Tuner, ready to do some baby-sitting? LoL

Good to have you back man!
