Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum and new to the 1911 so I thought I'd start off by showing everyone my new (to me) Colt 1911.
I got it for $300 from a neighbor of mine thats selling off some of his collection and thought for the price I couldn't go wrong. The serial number is 2445** and has "United States Property" stamped on it.
I just got back from the range and I'm a VERY happy man. this gun shoots great'
very accurate (clay birds at 15yds... didn't miss one!!) for me that's amazing.
There is no rust, what looks like rust is a shellac like film, maybe old oil that dried up. The action is very smooth the internals look like they have little wear to them.
I'd appreciate any info on this pistol, and roughly what you all think it's worth.
I don't plan on selling or modifying it, just curious.
Thanks and this is a great site.

Looks like an WWII arsenal rebuild of a WWI model M1911. It has the parkerized finish, WWII plastic stocks, and an arched MSH. Nice pistol for $300! Good thing this forum has bad language filters.....

Thanks for the quick reply!
I appreciate the info, from the pics I saw of the WWI pistols it didn't look original.
But hey, It was cheap, it's in good shape, and shoots great, so I think I did good :D

Thanks Again!

I would say you did great, congratulations and welcome to the forum. I agree with Rondawg, looks like it could be a nice arsenal rebuild. In addition to the MSH and stocks, they replaced the trigger, hammer and slide.

I've gotta say I'm hooked now, I love this gun!
I went to the range again today and finished off the 2nd box of ammo the guy gave my with the gun and to shoot the python. There was a mix of federal, Remington, and independence ammo. It gobbled them up and spit them out with no problems :D
Well, there is one problem....One is not enough, I want a couple more!

I've got a 1944 Nambu T14 and now an American classic in the 1911.
Not a bad start to a WWII collection I guess. Thanks again everyone!

Welcome to the Forum. I wish I could find one for $300 buck even if it is a rebuild. Congrats on your find and enjoy it.
