i'm wanting to replace my FLGR with Colt parts from brownells (i think thats fine for this forum, if not, mods sorry).

i'm looking at these:
Recoil Spring (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=4638&title=RECOIL%20SPRING,%20BLUE&s=10612#10612)
Recoil spring guide (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=4635&title=RECOIL%20SPRING%20GUIDE,%20BLUE&s=10608#10608)
Spring plug (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=4642&title=RECOIL%20SPRING%20PLUG,%20SS&s=10616#10616)
should be right around $50 w/shipping.
i can get the ed brown versions of these parts and save $10... but i want colt parts.

anything else i should think about changing out (i purchased my gun used.. but i swear it doesnt look like its been fired at all).

cheers

Sounds good to me! I personally do not much like FLGR's so i'm all for changing them out, especially to Colt components. I typically use Wolff Springs, but i'm sure the Colt product is fine (and it may well BE a Wolff spring).
I'd say, if nothing else has been modified, don't make any other changes until you've shot the gun for a while (to see what you like/don't like), if anything at all...
I should say, i'm basing this on the assumption you recently purchased a Commander and the previous owner installed a drop-in FLGR.

I applaud you for being a purist.
You are going the right direction.

thanks for the input guys.. i'm waiting for a CC payment to hit my card before i fire off the order.
i have thus far only ran 50 rounds through her since i got her (the same day i got her)
but i finally got some time off on monday and tuesday.. i plan on calling my gun range monday and see if their open, if not, i am going tuesday with about 400 rounds of .45 and 300-400 rounds of 9mm (wife wants to shoot her beretta, its been awhile and she's itching too).

now i'm trying to decide which route to go with my magazines.. i have the Colt mag that came with my gun, and i purchased a seperate Kimber mag (not their tac model, just a base kimber mag).
i want to buy Colt mags, but seeing the pricing of them, i may just go with the aftermarket recommendations from here on the forums.
my neighbor is gonna hook me up with two 8 round CmC powermags.
but thats for a different sub forum entirely:)

As you may have seen, Brownells sells genuine Colt mags, but they are pricey compared to the althernatives. Midwayusa.com sells a variety of mag configurations and occasionally has signficant sales. A good e-mail list to be on as is Brownells, but Midway seems to have more sales. There's currently a Memorial Day sale on for four days, and if you want the promotion code I can post.

Ed Brown parts won't be any better or worse than the Colt parts.
If you want to save ten bucks, buy the EB stuff. If you want to have the gun remain a purists Colt, drop the extra ten bucks. You can't go wrong either way.
I usually swap FLGR's with the Ed Brown parts, but only because I'm cheap.

I did the same thing you are doing, except I used a Wolff spring service pack. I just wanted Colt parts on my Colt.

Its an easy do-it-yourself customization, adding a personal touch to your fine firearm.

When I buy a used 1911, I switch out all the springs with Wolff replacements.
Can't fault you for wanting the GI style rod/plug set.
My New to me, used Colt Defender will get new springs all around, and I'll buy a couple of recoil spring assemblies from Colt.

i usually dont/wont/ever buy a used firearm unless i know the person and see's how they take care of it (like my winchester 1300 from my neighbor).
but this gun was so pristine looking, i dont think its even had 100 rounds down the pipe, so i'll likely wait a year or so before replacing the other springs.

thanks for the input though!
