Just wondering which recoil spring you guys buy for your Colt XSE government size and where you buy it from. Do you go with a stock Colt or something like a Wilson replacement? Thanks.

16lb is the norm for a full size 1911. I use Wolff, but there are others. Brownell's is a good place to start, they have everything you need.

Have used Wolff, Wilson and Colt over the years with flawless results.

What others have said, and second Brownells and would also mention Midway. I wonder if part of the question is if the full length guide rod in the XSE changes things, and I have never noticed it did.

Does anyone know what weight of spring Colt uses in the Commander and Officer's size models as well?

Thanks.

If you visit the Wolff's web site they will list the appropriate size and strength for all models. The std. recoil spring for full-size Gov't models, such as our XSE's is 16 lbs. I have had great results with Wolff's and all springs for all size 1911's are listed along with the std. strength rating and ratings of their extra and reduced power offerings.

They are not always identical visually but are top notch, to say the least. The only place I can find genuine Colt springs is when I happen across one at a local shop but I can always get the right Wolff's from their web site. If anyone knows of a well stocked, reliable surce fr geuine Colt springs please post or PM me.

Their site will give you much info about all your spring needs. I'm sure there are many others that are just as well made and informative but theirs is where i go and stock up for pistol springs. I use Tripps and Wilson's for magazine rebuild kits.

Whet 'they' say is 18lbs for a Commander, just make sure it's a Commander and not a 4" 1911. I use 16-17lb springs in my Commanders.

Springfields Champion model is a 4" 1911, Wilson makes them that length and so do others.......while a Commander is 4 1/4"

I have tried 18# variable power springs ( I think Wolf) in my XSE Combat Commander and My Springfield Trophy Match. Lot's of FTF's. 18# standard springs work well in both guns. I really don't understand the reason for variable power springs. The guy at Brownells recomended them?

I use the stock Colt Spring in my XSE and I have had no problems. I like to stick with whatever Colt had indended for the pistol to use.

Where can you buy the stock Colt recoil spring from? Do you have to call Colt themselves and order it directly from them?

Here's a 32 coil from Colt's available on Brownell's site. It doesn't state what lb. rating it is, though…
