I was able to acquire this 1943 Colt, 1151311, from a friend.

The slide stop is serrated as opposed to checkered. From the research I did it seems that Colt's didn't change to the serrated until around 1600000, so I'll either live with it or find the correct checkered one. All else seems to be correct.

I have shot this pistol...when it was his...not sure if I'll shoot it now that it's mine ;) Preston

Thank you for your replies, much appreciated.

This pistol was born just about a year before I was. I remember trying to shoot ones similar in the Army and not doing very well.

I have others(Colt's) but there is just something(aura or mystique) about the older ones. I'm now saving for a 1911 to keep this one company...it's that or a tank of gas. :D :scared: :D Preston

That's a fine looking Colt you got there. Now if I can find friends who own these fine classic 1911s and sell them to me :D.

I would leave the slide stop alone. There was a lot of serial number overlap in the transitions from one type part to another.
If you change the part now, you'll KNOW it's been changed.
If you leave the part in place, you'll KNOW you DIDN'T change it.

I would leave the slide stop alone.

Thanks for replying on that issue Scott, I will do as you suggest. Preston
