A couple of friends of mine came over for a shoot today and neither had ever fired a 1911. I had just gone through a batch of .38Super handloads in a Colt and Para leaving them out; the XSE is in a Caldwell rest, didn't feel like getting the Springer GI out, which left the old carry work horse Lew Horton Colt combat/target ORM to get the spot light.

As mentioned in another thread on lubes, this Colt was put away in the safe late last summer; the only ammo was 230gr/Golden Saber/Power Pistol/960fps.

With some accuracy issues with other platforms, after a few pointers with grip/wrist/forearm alignment and they were hitting multiple targets (small plastic bottles @10yds/15yds about 75% of the time front sight shooting.

Common expressions written on another website; old fashioned design, too many internal parts, jamomatic, too complicated, no need for grip/slide safety because trigger safeties are better etc, etc ad nauseum. In spite of this, people who have never shot a 1911 are able to engage and hit multiple targets with full self-defense loads from the git-go at modest split times.

Anyway, it was cool to see the expression on their faces after shooting several magazines on multiple targets and connecting. I'm not sure when their anniversary is, but I know what one of them is thinking. :appld:

Hi

I routinely go out to the range with "one of each" and let the kids (young and old) figure out what they like and don't like for themselves. I don't push anything and let them shoot what they like.

The only thing that gets anywhere close to the 1911's are the SIG's. The plastic wonder guns all start out at the top of the list and drop *really* fast once they try them out ....

The 1911 has been selling itself for a long time.
