I just got this excellent condition M1912 holster. I am wondering if I should treat it with saddle soap or leave it alone. It is in almost new condition, and has some of the green stuff on the brass fittings. Looks like it's been in a good storage environment for 90 years! I don't want to mess up a nice holster!

Don't know where the edit button went, but the holster is a M1916, this belt is a M1912.

There's a time-out clock on the Edit button. I don't remember what John has it set for.

I have a genuine WW1 holster I picked up at a small antique shop. The leather is somewhat dried out but not yet cracked. I used saddle soap on it to clean and preserve it, but it did darken the leather slightly. I am not aware of anything that preserves leather better or darkens light colors less, but perhaps someone will provide some additional info.

The guys over at the other 1911 forum just told me to use wax, like Renaissance Wax, and not do anything else to it. I think I'll just do that, and not try to clean it. They're the ones who reminded me that the holster is a M1916. I was going to use saddle soap, but it's not necessary in it's condition.

Thanks
