First range trip with Colt GCTM!

Very interesting day! Colts look the same but are a very different animal of a pistol. First off the TRIGGER IS WIDER than any other 1911 I own. Ok - nice touch. Loaded up 8 rounds - wilson mag. aim - BANG - then "BOING" with the slide cycle. WOW this is cool. Every shot - "bang- boing"

I definitly feel the slide compress the recoil sping as it cycled. I know this may sound stange but - very different than shooting my other 1911's SA - RIA - SIG.

so I had a good - different - fun sorta - time shooting my new COLT!!!

Only bad thing - I discovered I do not have a "prancing pony" on the slide!!!

That is a good looking Gold Cup Trophy, they really are fine pistols.
I like the wide trigger myself for a target pistol.

Ah, you have an early SS Trophy with the flat top slide. I look at the Colt GC Trophys as one of the best deals out there in new 1911s.

It might be worth mentioning that the earlier GCNMs can be had with the pony in the used market. This one is from 1988, so the last year offered the collet bushing, and it has the wide and steel trigger. One nice feature is that when the wrap around Pach. grips come off the front of the frame is grooved.

Gold Cups have wide triggers, the other models do not. There is tens and tens and maybe more tens of Colts models out there that are not supposed to have the rampant colt rollmarked.

May I ask what lb spring you are using in your Gold Cup? Not the green tipped one?

The recoil spring is painted a bluish green on the tip. What does that mean????

The recoil spring with the green tip is (IIRC) a 12 pound spring and should be used with light target loads.
If you are shooting standard pressure rounds you should be using a 16 pound recoil spring (also included).
I do believe this is explained in the manual.

Like someone else mentioned, that Trophy rollmark is sweet. I think it looks amazing.

Were those grips standard on that gun??? Stunning.

Thanks!!!

The grips came off a WWII commerative - I put colt tetured white with silver medallion on the HC commerative and took the maple to the GCTM

Good Grief, Longslide!!! :D

That is simply beautiful!!! :appld:

I've read, as we all have, some opinions held that these fancy engraved commemorative and special edition Colt 1911A1 pistols are not everyone's "cup o' tea".

I doubt, however, such could be argued persuasively after seeing a Colt like the one above... just my thinking there.

If she were in my keeping, she's a "safe queen" for certain... and proudly kept that way! ;)

Even though a trophy pistol - I have shot the commerative. Ran 100% for 25 rounds!!! Cleaned it and put it back in the display case - where it rests!!!

Nice looking GCT. I have one just like it in blue and it is my favorite gun. One word of caution...keep an eye on the leaf pin that holds the front of the eliason sight down these things seem to have a way of working loose and ruining a range trip.
