I have a older Defender(98-2000) with the Caspian style beavertail. Bought a Wilson style beavertail and went to fitting it. I didnt want to change the Defender so I changed the beavertail to fit. Carefully removed som materil and I think it turned out pretty good for my first time doing it. Then I got wild and removed the high step in the back of it and tried to blend it in better.
Could use some more buffing but thought I would take a pic of it now. Also took the slide and wet sanded it to get the scatches out and that turned out great. Then took the framed and lightly bead blasted it to remove some marks. Still there but more faint now.

What didn't you like about the Caspian 'tail?

That turned out great! I bet it points nicely too. Well done.

Felt like it was biting the web in my hand when I was shooting it.

I had that Caspian bump on my CCO. I don't think I'd characterize the way it felt when shooting the pistol as "biting" but it sure felt weird to me and seemed to want to move side to side in my hand. I didn't like that feel and I didn't like the look of it either.

So it went away.

I have yet to find a beavertail that is depressed by my grip, and the Caspian is about the only one I haven't tried. For what it's worth, I think it's the best-looking of the speed bump beavertails.

It's an odd coincidence but I've cut the tangs on my SS GCT to fit a Wilson and have been having a time with it because the new Wilson tail was slightly different one side to the other viewed from the side. Getting the lines to look decent has been a slow thing.
But just for curiousity I put the Caspian 'bump' model that had been replaced from my CCO and it drops right in with clean identical angles on the side views so now I'm asking myself just how much I didn't like it after all. :D
