I know we have many Colt History buffs lurking around this forum, so I thought I'd post this auction and hope someone from around here could pick this beauty up.

VERY impressive pistol! I don't know that i've ever seen one in that condition from that period.
Thanks for the link Agent 45.
Man... nice 1915 but way too many zeros for me.
You go first!

No, I wish it was...... but considering my 2 recent purchases, I won't be due for another till later this year (wait.... father's day IS next month) ;)
Though I'd LOVE to have a piece of history like this, it's way out of my budget.... esp for something I wouldn't carry everyday..... (those are the words of my fiance). :(

Hi
My problem would be the one I have mentioned here before a few times. I simply don't have the experience to go over a pistol like that and *know* if it's right. If I'm buying from somebody I know that's not an issue. On an auction sale it one more worry ....
The guy seems to be upfront about what he has. He's giving you a right to inspect and guaranteeing a refund. That's all fine and it's about all he can do. With no reflection on this guy at all - I have had sellers *vanish* as soon as they got my money ...

The commercial model of the government model of the 1911? All the bases are covered, there.

Well...I live in Chandler, AZ, so if anyone wants me to run my entirely inexpert eye over this gun, I'll be happy to do so for them. :)

Hi
The auction started out high enough that I don't think there's going to be a whole lot of back and forth. If he'd opened it up at $2,000 you would see a *lot* of bids by now.

Tell you what, I give better pictures and info than that on a gun selling for 1/10th as much. That is one pathetic auction for a world-class pistol like that. Still, the one picture in the case tells reams of info - the finish, the color of the grips, etc. That has to be one of the most desirable Colts I've seen. I imagine he'll get his price and more, but he doesn't deserve it. I find it fascinating that the Colt WWI repros really seem to have it about as 'right' as you could expect, based on what I can see on this pistol. Imagine if it still had the original box, instruction sheet and bill of sale!

Hi
Looks like the auction didn't go very far.
Bob
I agree that the seller should have taken more time to get really good photos. If you've ever seen jackthedog's photos on auctionarms.com you know what great pictures they take of their firearms.
Colt does a really nice job with the WWI repro, but one thing that looks bad on the repro and makes it stand out as different is how bug-eyed the rollmarks are. It's too bad Colt doesn't take the time and effort to flatten these before bluing the gun. A repro is instantly recognizable as a repro because of the cratered rollmarks.

Hi
The closer they got the repo the more people would go nuts about it being hard to spot. Why they would when the serial numbers are different I can't explain, but indeed they would. I'd much rather have a $900 repo just like it is than a $1800 repo that's a bit closer.
Bob
Colt could, though, flatten the rollmarks on the WWI repro, just like they used to on all their pistols, with minimal expense.

If I had the means I'd be in touch with that seller and getting some detail photo's - It's killing me to have to sit this on out. Yeah, the price is up there but I'd love to adopt it if due diligence panned out! I have never seen one of this vintage so nice. As always, if it seems too good to be true… but with more details ( and $$$!) I'd be all over it. Talk about a beautiful piece of history, not to mention eye candy!

Afternoon,
Does anyone know who this person is or a way to contact? I would be a buyer on that Colt! Auction closed so can't mail him by GB, will go to E-bay & try as he stated a member there.
Thanks,
Dale Francis perfmarineky@aol.com

Hi
The way they do it to get them flat, it's two passes through the polishing line. That's the way they used to do it, that's the way they would do it now. To keep everything flat (no dishing or rounded edges) with two polish passes is a *big* issue with their process.
