That's a beaut for sure - NIB to boot! I won't be able to swing any new additions for a few more months yet… That is a great tip - someone, grab it so we can see a bunch of pics on the photo thread! Man, that's a good looker…
Well, I hope it was someone from here. I just looked in and saw that the seller posted a 'sold, pending funds' at 7:24 last night.
I'd just bought a 6" Python yesterday morning and then I saw that pistol maybe a half hour after making the deal. What's wrong with seller's timing anyway??

Hope it shows up in the pics thread! That was a sweet Pony and a real nice price to boot…
I wonder what's marked on the right side. 9mm with a Commander hammer?

unless my eyes are deceiving me, it is a commander (the ad says Colt 9mm, no mention of gov't or commander).

my 9mm commander

at any rate, someone picked up a nice Colt!

That's a Commander, unless my eyes deceive me on the muzzle end appearace and the Combat Commander rollmark.
Was 9mm ever offered in a 5", anyone? I have always thought they were all Commanders. _Paul
You mean like this:http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p263/twagger/guns/1CombatCommander1.jpg This pistol says "Colt's Combat Commander Model" on it's starboard flank as well as small lettered - well, you can see the portside. But my lightweight says "Commander Model" to port and has the Colt single address line to starboard.
I guess it was his photo angle that made it seem longer to me...Nah, looking at it now more closely than before I posted about it, I blew any call that it might be a GM.
Paul, Yes, there have been a few 9mm GM's brought up in here. I remember a thread in which someone was expressing their desire for one, and someone else showed one, or like that. I couldn't begin to know how to point you to it but i'm sure I've seen them here on the site.

I was fairly certain it was a Commander as well (which makes it even more of a gem in my mind!). Nice Commander pics, lindermant and Hill!!!
Paul, i've seen a few 9mm GM's. I believe Colt made an ORM model as well as other Series 80 (and maybe even pre-series 80?) GM's. Hopefully someone can verify this.

I couldn't recall seeing any 9mm GM's… thanks for the info.
On the post from the other thread I pulled the image into Photoshop on my Mac and even with the lower resolution the Combat Commander rollmark is there.

Guys, I purchased this beauty yesterday. I saw the thread but honestly did'nt really think it was NIB!
After lenghty discussions with the seller, I made a deposit and I'm sending a certified check and FFL transfer today!
I cannot wait to get this beauty in my possesion......
According to the kind folks at Colt, this is a Pre-80 series manufactured around 1980.
Serial # is 80B S200XX......
Would it be a scandalous to modify this Colt?
I am interested to hear your thoughts on the future of this fine weapon.
This 1911 will be used to shoot pins and paper mostly.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I would leave it as is and buy another to shoot, but that's just me.

That's a beauty Wes, congrats!!!!!!! I personally wouldn't modify that one, just because of it's condition and relative low numbers. I'd look for a "beater" to modify myself (and am actively doing so). But it's your pistol and you should enjoy it! Look forward to more pics when it "arrives"!

Congrats on one heckuva nice find!!! I'm envious… IMHO, yes, it would be scandalous to mess with it. Get a lesser versin to modify. You got a good deal on a Colt many of us are drooling all over our keyboards about!
Wes, nice snag on a real beauty! Dittos on the "leave it alone vote".
Find a shooter. But hey... either way enjoy!
(Insert more drool on keyboard here.)

Looks like ya did good! If you are really going to shoot it all the time, go with mods that aren't permanent so if you like you can change it back to stock. Or change it to whatever you like, it's your pistol. I'd probably just leave it alone (I'd shoot it, just not alter it) and buy a newer version to make a base gun from. But whatever you do, enjoy it. It's your money, do as you choose.
