I just got a Sistema 1911a1 it's been parkerized and the slide stop and safety blued the frame and slide match but the bbl. is a U.S. military High Standard replacement as are the grips. The only thing I wonder about is what branch of military it was issue'd to as the marking was removed or never had one.The heat treating of the slide stop notch really show's up in the picture but is hard to see in person. I got it for $399.00.

Hi
They marked these pistols a lot of different ways over the years. Unless your pistol is specifically marked as Navy, it's only a guess as to who used it.
Bob
All I've read over the years says that if it has a crest on it and no branch noted, then that indicates Army.

Sureshot,
I picked mine up on Friday while looking for a Rem700SA and found the Sistema for $350 and got an almost new Mossberg 835 3.5". I will have pics to post in a week or two currently, currently working the day shift and my gunsmith wont be able to go over the pistol till late next week to make sure everything is fine prior to shooting.

I went to the range this morning the sistema did not like blazer ammo at all it kept failing to feed but with 230 grain ball it was fine. the only thing wrong was the hammer kept biting my hand so I'll have to correct that. My Ballister -Molina ran fine with every thing .

According to the book Colt .45 Government Models (Commercial Series), by Charles W. Clawson, pistol s/n 86455 was shipped to the Argentine Navy on October, 15, 1955. Furthermore, in that book there is a picture of pistol s/n 86532 that is also marked with the argentinean crest but devoid of other markings.

Clawson is referring to the Colt commercials purchased by Argentina,I'm refering to the Argentine manufactured Mod. 1927.,I have no idea where the Commercials went.

Please let me clarify my previous posting. Pistol s/n 86455, the one that appears on the first posting of this thread is an Argentine made Sistema Colt Modelo 1927. This pistol that was manufactured in Argentina by the DGFM-FMAP at the Rosario small arms factory.
The book Colt .45 Government Models (Commercial Series), by Charles W. Clawson, also includes information about " ... Norwegian and Argentine Copies". Chapter 8 of the book devotes from page 181 to page 199 to the Argentine made Sistema Colt Modelo 1927 and Chapter 9 devotes from page 200 to page 203 to the Argentine made Ballester-Molina. Therefore in the book there is ample information about the Argentine made pistols, and not just about the pistols made in the USA by Colt.
The shipping information pertaining to pistol s/n 86455 appears on page 187 of the book, under the title Argentine Navy Sistema Colts. As stated on my posting, the Argentine made Sistema Colt pistol s/n 86455 was shipped to the Argentine Navy on October, 15, 1955, therefore this was a pistol that was issued to the Argentine Navy.
On page 194 of the book pistol s/n 86532 is described as an Argentine navy Sistema Colt Modelo 1927.

Learn something new every day, have never seen any of Clawson's big books, only have the 1st. edition small pocket guide,I just always assumed that his Govt. Models Book just dealt with Colt manufactured pistols,I have several commercial Colts, also have had several Colt contract Argentines over the years, but have no interest in the Commercial and Contract Colts, the only reason I like mod 27's is because they are finely made/fitted and shoot extremely well(the like new ones, not the "beaters" of late import, although it don't take much to make good shooters out of them).

Geez, I wish I could afford that book, Hafdasa - it would surely be a tremendous help in collecting the Argentine M1927 (although I wish I could also afford a Norwegian M1917). Unfortunately, I was completely unaware about that gem until a new friend clued me in to his smaller book on the Government Issues, but even back then it was already into its 3rd edition.
Mr. Clawson would probably make a killing if he re-releases a 2nd edition of that book! :appld:
