I started the break-in on my Springfield Loaded Operator today. What a nice pistol! Only FMJ through it today, but it ran flawlessly, and shoots comfortably and beautifully. No FTFs, no FTEs, and ate everything through the stock mags. Next trip, I start using flying ashtrays in it. It drew a lot of attention from the other shooters, too. I installed Pachmayr wraparound grip on it, and I really like it: I can grip it much more comfortably than with the stock wooden grips.

I wasn't really shooting the Springer for accuracy: it was its first time out, and I was more interested in getting rounds down the pipe, working the springs, getting the slide eased in, etc., and only trying to hit the target, not zero it in. That comes next time as everything eases up. I can tell that as it gets used more, it's going to be an accurate shooter: the several shots I DID go for accuracy-wise were all very close to POA. If there's a difference in recoil between the weightier Operator, and a stock 1911, I can't feel it- they both recoil easily for me, much easier than my Kahr K40 Elite 98.

I've pretty much decided to lose the FLGR. I see no point to it, it's a PITA taking it down for cleaning, and the Allen Wrench is just one more small part to lose.

I shot a whole bunch of other pistols today, too, but they were not Springers, so their range reports go in another thread. I'll only say that I LOVE my Rock Island 1911!

Does your loaded operator have the full length or shortened rail? It's cool to hear that it's shooting well for your right out of the box.

I got mine 2 weeks ago with the full-length rail. I figured that is I ever tired of it, I could get it cut down by a 'smith, but it's hard to do it the other way 'round! :)

I like the full length rail too. I had heard some rumors that the full length rail was going to be replaced by the shorter rail, however Dave Williams put that false rumor to rest when I spoke with him last week.

That must be the TRP Operator Springfield is keeping, because I was told the Loaded Operator they stopped running and was going to the regular frame.

I haven't had any problem w/ mine since I took it out of the box. It's got a few 1000's rnds through it, shot limited 10 twice w/ it and not a problem to arrise what so ever. It's a great gun!
