I need some help!!! my 1918/1911 is missing its front sight, the old narrow
ones. Does anyone know of someone who makes replacements,or might have
(repro or originals).I have been looking but run into stone walls.

I assume you have called Brownells? And Colt? Not necessarily in that order.

JOHN,
yes i've called everyone i could find.as far as colt they stink, thier 1911 ww1 repros
would fit perfectly but they won't work on any of the old guns.that came right from them.which really surprised me.
OK, they may not work on them, but won't they be willing to send you a sight? That doesn't sound reasonable.

JOHN,
I had them on the phone, they said they would not sell me a sight. They answered
my letter by phone,i offered to buy the part and still they said no.I have been
searching a over old gunsmiths, shows, etc.
Well, do me a favor, will you? Call Colt again, and ask to talk to Cindy. Tell her you are a member here, and what you want. I am sure they can sell you a darn sight, typically I would expect them to send it to you for free, it's no biggie.

JOHN,
I will try again as you ask,but just to let you know CINDY is the person who I talked
to.

Oh well, some times, even the best intentions fail. I still find it rather strange that Colt (and especially Cindy) didn't offer to send (or even to sell) you a sight.
Do the WWI reproductions have round tenon sights? I would expect a more substantial design on a modern pistol.

JOHN,
Well I called, cindy told me colt can't help.
THANKS ANYWAY
The WWIs are reproductions, not reissues, they use different tenons on the sight, they ain't gonna work unless you reduce the tenon or open the slide. Colt stinks because they won't send you a part you can't use?

OD,
Yes I know the sight is a repro, and no I would not ask for a part I could'nt
use. This all came about when I asked if they would install a sight on my gun
I wanted the custom shop to do the work, opening the tenon hole if they had to
I don't think i was asking for something impossible.I wanted to pay for their work
I was not looking for something for nothing.I do own other COLT firearms and
have no complaints. I just think they could have work with me a bit, they are
in bussiness to make money correct.
None of the larger manufacturers will accept work on weapons of a certain age anymore (usually prewars). IF something were to happen to your slide, some type of damage, when they were modifying it, they have no way to replace it. Try to have an old Smith and Wesson worked on, they won't accept them either, BTDT. So are they in the business to make money? Yes and no, there is no profit to them working on older weapons IF something they no longer produce would need replaced at their expense. Deal with someone who does that work, there are any number of restoration specialists.

I guess your right looking at it that way,I stand corrected.
I'll keep trying to find one,one will show up sooner or latter
No problem. ;)
Check with the old parts suppliers and try to find a front sight for a Colt Model 1903, at one time they were somewhat easier to find.
