I'm waiting to get my first pistol - a Kimber Custom CDPII - out of the shop while it's on the 10-day hold. I've been looking for unusual grips, and discovered the Hakan web site. His grips are amazing, but unfortunately he's not taking orders and has a wait list. So...

I thought I'd try making something myself. I found some oak I had laying around and got started. I'm not done yet, and I have only some idea of whether they'll be what I wanted them to be, but so far things seem to be going okay.

Here are pics of my progress so far:

The first two pics show the pieces of wood I started with, after some tracing of a plastic 1911 airgun stock I had.

The next two pics show the way I set up and made my first diagonal line after a lot of rasping and sanding. :-) I masked where I wanted the line and burned it in with a high-power soldering pencil.

The next pic shows the stippeling on the lower section.

The next two show where I'm at right now with the stippeling on both sections.

I've still got to do the other grip, and then need to finish them. I'll post more pics if there's interest...

Thanks John! I have to admit, though, it's probably as much "wanting" as patience...

So far so good Martin! Keep up the good work. There are a few of us here that make our own grips also, so if you have any questions I'm sure we'll be glad to help out.
I must warn you that making grips is addictive. Be prepared to make more, and more, and more......

Thanks Sarge! Yep - I'm bit! I've gotta find a way to replace my dining room table now; somehow it's gotten pieces cut out from the top!!! Amazing thing, though - my newest grips match the grain of what's left of the table perfectly! :D

I hope this is the correct place to post this, but I do have a question, Sarge, about the best way to make the holes for the screws - both how to accurately position them and how to best do the countersinking on both sides (inside & out). Thanks for any help!
