Im looking for a 1911 5 inch barrel to have as a backup. I have found one made by Iver Johnson. And another one just saids Mil-Spec. Can someone tell me which would be the best one to get? Thank you much.

You could buy one through Brownells. Depending on which manufacturer it may need to be fit by a gunsmith. Not to be nosey but why would you want a spare barrel ? Unless you are upgradeing (match grade barrel & bushing) I can't see a need for a spare. Don't take it wrong, it is just my opinion. 1911 barrels last a long time and unless you shoot many thousands of rounds you won't wear it out.
When I was stationed at Bragg my assistant gunner carried a spare barrel for my M60. But never carried a spare barrel for a 1911.

Im wanting the spare barrel for tinkering purposes. Something to try to learn on with blueing and such. Don't want to mess up my stock barrel from Springfield.

Hi
You can pick up Springfield take off barrels for $40 or so. You can buy brand new RIA barrels for $35 last time I checked. I would not bother with anything cheaper ....

Ah, ok. Like I said don't take my post personal. It's just something I never heard someone wanting for their 1911 unless upgradeing. Good luck on the blueing. I tried it a about 20 years ago on an old shotgun I had. Needless to say I wasn't very happy with my final results. :o

Hi
Carbon steel knife blades are good for practicing bluing on. Cheap if you get them at garage sales. :D
