I had my local gun shop install a set like this for $25.00 I paid about 20 bucks for these sights.

Unless you're an experienced machinist with a Bridgeport milling machine and the tooling, I'm gonna say no. The front novak sight is set in a dovetail cut into the slide, whereas the stock sight is a tenon staked into a hole. The rear Novak sight is mounted in a larger dovetail than the stock GI style rear sight, and (at least on my slide) Novak cuts the rear deck of the slide down a little to fit the low profile sight lower.

I had Novak put this rear sight on my slide, and I retained the Trijicon tenon-style front sight. Then the gun shot low in relation to the sights. But, I'm having this gun polished and blued, so the sights had to come off. I told the gunsmiths to just replace the front Trijicon with the correct Novak sight.

It's costly, but if you want Novak's low profile tritium sights, just send the slide to Novak's. For more money, you can send them the whole gun and they can sight it in for you. I think they also offer an adjustable rear sight.

You can see in this photo how the rear of the slide has been milled down a little.

Now that I've re-read this thread, I realized I don't even know what kind of gun you're talking about! For some reason, I thought you were talking about a Rock Island GI model. I hang out here and on other forums waaaaay too much! :o Need sleep........

Ah. You can likely find a set of sights that are direct replacements then, and probably CAN do it yourself. Call Novak's and ask, worth a try. Good luck!
