View Full Version : New New Agent stiff?

Hiya Folks,
Well I finally took delivery of a New Agent I had on layaway for some time. I'm wondering if anyone out there with one noticed the slide stop being very difficult to release when new? I'm having a heck of a time releasing the slide. I literrally have to wrap my hand over the top of the gun and press down with my thumb. I suspect it'll get easier with use and I haven't cleaned/oiled it up yet but thought I'd ask if this is normal.
Cheers,
cc

Mine was like that also when I got it. I've worked it a bit, and it seems to be loosening up nicely.
<><Peace
BTW, congrats on the new pistol.

Colts usually ship from the factory pretty dry so break the gun down and oil it up. That will loosen things.

And then shoot the snot out of it! That's what it's made for!

Yeah, before I get all twisted up over this, I had planned to break it down, lube it well, and then shoot it a lot to see what happens. Thanks for the inputs.

Definitley lube up a new pistol. If you'd like, you can try Tetra, Lubriplate, Gun Butter or any other quality gun grease on the slide and rails. This doesn't store longterm as well as oil but if you want to get it gliding for a date at the range I have found good gun greases to work extremely well and, I believe, better than oil on heavy load areas. For longterm storage, though, they tend to get stiff if they sit for extended periods.
Congrats on a nice addition (pics? :D )…

Sorry, no pics. I never really got into the whole pics thing to be honest. If the gun had been customized or was a rare find fair enough. But something that anyone can go out and buy. Nah. Looking forward to shooting it soon though.

Just picked mine up today...didn't notice anything too stiff. Except the plunger thing where the guide rod is (sorry for my ignorant description). That thing took the dickens to get in right. (this was before I shot it)
I was only able to put 26 rds through mine(was also breaking in a dan wesson)

Hi
I have not noticed that the slide stop on the New Agent is much different than my other Colts.

I'll be sure to post back after I get some rounds through it. I suspect it'll loosen right up.

If a good lube job and some range time doesn't get it where it should be, not just acceptable but proper, definitely let Colt make it right for you. They will do right by you and have done so with me in the past. If a bit of break-in, which none of my Colt's ever needed to be where they should be, doesn't get things sliding the way they should let Colt know for sure and they will make sure your Agent performs as designed. Something may be just a hair out of spec. If a hundred rounds gets it all doing what it should than keep on enjoying!
Mine was really stiff too. Racking the slide was tough. Now, after 226 rounds I don't notice it. It'll loosen up.
Or a quick pass with a Dremel grinding wheel through the notch and over the rear of the slidestop will fix it right up.
Thumb exercizes maybe?

Sorry Hill. No pics. Read my post above.
I'm trying to get my weekends set up over the next month or so so I can get to the range sometime. I've still got an AK to shoot as well!
Cheers,

Hi
My guess is that a quick once over with a stone or some emery paper would take care of anything odd on either the slide or the stop it's self.
