View Full Version : What's an Ithaca slide worth?

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this question, so please forgive me...
What might an Ithaca slide be worth?
The reason I ask is, I was in a gun shop today, and there was a 1911 priced at $400. Looked it over, and it was an Ithaca slide on some kind of really low-grade frame. I'm cheap, and love good deals, but this pistol had issues. Just no worky right. People bad-mouth RIA frames because they're cast, but this one was REALLY junk.
Anyway, I was wondering about buying it for parts if Ithaca slides are in demand, and I could talk 'em down more, it's for sale on consignment. Not really looking to MAKE any money on it, but rather to pass the slide on to someone that's looking for one. Give it a good home, ya know, save it from doom.
Anybody know? Thanks!

Hi
A *lot* would depend on the subtle details. Without pictures that's going to be hard to evaluate. I have seen them for $200 to $300 in "ok" shape at shows. My guess is that they sell a lot better at the lower price.

Obviously price will vary based on condition, originality, seller and geographic location. The biggest concern regarding value IMO is whether or not the finish is still factory original. If finish is not original, prices I generally see are much lower...perhaps $75-150, then based solely on condition.

Thanks guys! I realize about the condition, etc. Looked to be the original finish, but who knows. I can look it over again, it's just hard to ignore a $400 1911, even though the frame was garbage and the ignition system has issues. I could walk out with another new Rock for that, but the Ithaca slide intrigued me. I guess I was just wondering if they're rare enough to be worth saving, and if that price could be recouped. I have no idea what other original parts were there.
I'm likely going to pass on it, not something I need. But, if anybody out there is interested, let me know and I'll be happy to tell where it is!

An Ithaca slide isn't anything to lose sleep over IMO. I'd not buy anything that doesn't operate properly in hopes to speculate with the slide.
Sounds like a $100 slide and a $300 paperweight. Save your money for something better down the road.:)

Ron,
It depends on how old you are...
In fifty years that Ithaca slide might be worth $2000 if it is still legal to own.
Of course, gasoline might be $50 per gallon, too.
I read the posts about "Look what $30 bought way back when..." and then realise that $30 was half of what my dad made each week!
Just some thoughts...
Doug
Ron, I saw that same pistol at Green Mountain Guns last week and thought the same thing...I wanted a frame to use for a build.
The slide did look to be the best part. I remember the frame SN# started with LH xxxx. I had no idea who made it. The hammer did cock and fire but something was not right and I pasted.
Someone looked at it right after me(maybe you?)...don't think it even went back into the case. Preston

Hi
I went through this same calculation at the show last weekend. The subject was a WWI with all the right parts for $750. The only *minor* issue was the (insert nasty word here) refinish job. Needless to say when I left the show, the pistol was not with me.

A fellow here locally has had an Ithaca slide on his table at the gun show for months priced at $200 without any takers. I was guessing it would be worth at least that, but obviously I'm wrong. Rondawg, if you're interested in one, I'll bet I can get it for you fairly reasonable.

Yep, that's where it is! I doubt we were there at the same time, it was removed from the case for me to look at, then put back in. I tried dry-firing it several times, but the hammer wouldn't fall all the way.

Thanks! But I don't have a need for the slide, I was just wondering if I should pick it up for somebody else, if anybody needed one, and if it was worth the $400 price tag. I could get another Rock for that $$$, but I don't need any more 1911's....five is enough for me. I'm good on guns for awhile.
I needs reloading stuff now, and paint/carpet/windows/blinds/furniture for the house, and rebuild the garage, some landscaping, and build a loading bench in the basement, and finish my Willys restoration, and the Harley needs some love, etc., etc......

...and the Harley needs some love, ......PRIORITY! Right up there with buying 1911s, in my opinion. :)

I picked up that Ithaca slide 1911 at Green Mountain on Friday. Frame is A.R. Sales out of California. Grip screw bushings were stripped and glued in with what looks like gorilla glue. Gonna recut them and put in oversized bushings. The slide looks great, lots of finish left. The firing pin is slightly bent but it looks like a good rebuild project. I'll probably remove the Ithaca slide and save it for a later date, sale or maybe finding a Ithaca receiver.

Good for you...I had been back in there to look at that used Colt's Combat Gov't Model that was next to it and saw that the price had been reduced on the Ithaca/AR:) ...good luck with your project.
Be sure and post progress reports, glad it's getting some TLC. Preston

How's about posting some photos of it? Since you're the proud new owner and all....show the folks what we've been talking about.

For your viewing pleasure. As you can see the finish is worn around the ejection port but the rest is nice.
