Hey, so at my local gun store I found a used 1911a1 made by Ithaca...I looked up the serial number (1860926) and confirmed it was made in 1944 by Ithaca Gun co. I was just wondering if anyone had information about Ithaca and the quality of the guns. I know a lot of the parts still came from colt but just want oppinions, and if it is worth $700

Depending on conditions and original parts, yes, and probably is still worth picking up for this price. Check out www.coolgunsite.com for more info on Ithaca.

By 1944 all makers produced about equivelent weapons. Be sure to post pictures if you purchase the pistol.

I recently sold one in 97% condition for 1000.00 and I think I could have gotten more.Originality is the key when pricing WWII weapons,in my opinion.

If it is original and in decent condition , that is an excellent price. As an investment, it will beat the stock market by far. Value will likely never decrease.

There are a couple things to look for to insure Ithaca parts. The curve of the ejection port and the sometimes fatter, less refined trigger Guard there are a few stamps, though Ithaca did not use many, that out help ID the receiver and slide - Post Pics!!!
Sounds like it could be a good price, depending on correctness and condition, and as others mentioned, pics would be good. Something to look for on an Ithaca in this serial number range is that it should have a serrated hammer and thumb safety. Ithaca was the only manufacturer to use both serrated thumb safety and hammers on these guns. Good luck.
