First trip to the range with my brand new Series 80 Commander.
I own 4 1911 already, a full size 70 Series Gold Cup National Match, a full size 70 Series Government Model, a Springfield GI and a Para LDA Carry. I really like the 5” and the 3” lengths but always felt that my sweet spot might be the 4” length so I have been keeping my eye open for a used commander.
Now living in California, my buying options are, shall we say, somewhat limited so I never see any used Commanders. I have never bought a new gun, manly because of the hassels in getting them fixed if there is something wrong (you can not just take them back and get you money back) and I kind of like older things that I am interested in – old trucks, old guitars, old watches …… So, when I saw new SS Series 80 Commander, I bought it on impulse, took it to the range and hoped for the best.
My session consisted of 100 rds of 230 grns HB Blazer Brass and 150 rounds hand loads (200 grns LSWC with 6 grns of Pistol Power) with all targets at a 15 yard distance.
NOT ONE PROBLEM!!! Needless to say, I am very happy with the gun.
One minor irritation though …..both white dots in the rear sight fell out! But I can fix that with a tooth pick and some white model paint.
Hear is the gun sporting some new imitation ivory grips (with grain) with Wilson Combat SS screws.

Two targets 15 yards one with the gun on a sand bag rest and the other with a Weaver stance.
