I picked up my New Agent a couple of days ago. The NA came with 2 magazines and I bought 3 more SS Mags. I wiped the excess grease from the outside of the pistol at the gun shop. Wasn't much but it was protected well. As soon as I left the gun shop I loaded the 2 original mags up with some Starfire 230 grain JHP's. I chambered a round and loaded up another into the seven round mag. I stuck the gun in my pocket and that is where it stayed for 2 days. :D

I finally had a chance to fire a few rounds through it today. I did nothing to the pistol but wipe the exterior of the pistol the other night so the pistol was pretty much fired right out of the box.

I set a silouette target up at 21', lined up the gutter sights, aimed for the center of the head, squeezed the trigger and hit about 7 inches low. Oh well, I figured I gotta get used to the gutter sights. After I finished shooting the second mag of Starfires I thought I had the gutter sights figured out. I didn't do too bad with the first 15 rounds.

I had the other 3 mags loaded with a combination of brands. First up was 7 rounds of 230 grain Blazer FMJ, then 7 rounds of 230 grain Blazer Brass FMJ, then 7 rounds of 230 grain Winchester JHP. So far the pistol didn't skip a beat.

I had 24 Blazers left in the box so I soth them up first. The pistol shot like a dream and I was figuring out the gutter sights. Next up was was the Blazer Brass. I had 43 left so I shot them up. Perfect performance. I was still doing so so with the sights. Not too bad though.

My brother happened to drive by and stopped in and I asked him if he would like to shoot the new pistol. He said HECK YA, so I put up a new target for him. I had 43 rounds left of the Winchester JHP's and I loaded up the mags. My brother squeezed of the first round and he too hit low, but not for long. Dang, with a few more rounds he had the gutter sights figured out pretty good. My brother shot everything but the last 12 rounds. Gun performed flawlessly so far and my brother was better than I with the gutter sights.

I figured for the last 12 rounds I would point and shoot at a fresh target. I killed the target 10 times, shot his elbow once and missed altogether once. :D New pistol you know.

If my math is right we fired 146 rounds of 4 different brands of ammo without a single glitch.

Pros: Pistol is light and easy to conceal and carry. The pistol was easy to rack a bullet into the chamber. The pistol goes bang everytime I pull the trigger. Speaking of the trigger, It is a very light pull. Awesome actually but I'm no gun expert. The pistol felt great in my hand while shooting.

Cons: The screws on the grips came loose but I guess thats why they make screwdrivers and lock tight. The web of my hand is a little red :D This is my first 1911 and i'm not used to the 1911 safety mechanism. I am very much accustomed to a decocker style safety mechanism. I'll soon get used to it though because this will be my main summer time carry weapon.

I like the Colt New Agent very much and It performs very well for its intended use. I would recommend the NA as a short range carry weapon. Done.

Great report Tom and I am glad you are happy with the New Agent.
I will admit the trench sights do take some getting used to.
Did you get any pictures of your new pistol you could share?

TTR, great write up... I just took possession of my New Agent the other day and I love it. The slide isn't a super tight fit (gives a little rattle if you shake her), but that's perfectly acceptable in my book. If anything, I think it would allow the lint and grim from everyday carry to be kicked out when fired. I too hit about 7 inches low and the sites WILL have to take some time to adjust to. On the other hand, I've just ordered a CT laser grip and will post pics and report once I get it installed. Mine has roughly 450 rounds through her and I personally haven't had a hiccup yet (bought it slightly used). Both the dealers I frequent cannot keep these in stock and I think Colt hit one out of the park with this. Best of luck, and enjoy!!!!!!!!!!

Your range report equates EXACTLY with my experience. The shooting low if you try to use the trench sight like a rear sight. Instead use it like a gauge (I'm not explaining this perfectly, but you'll get the idea). Imagine that there's a piece atop your pistol, so you'd be looking through a tube, rather than a trench. That will level up your aim. Once you get the hang of it, this is an INCREDIBLY accurate gun.

Mine too had the loose grip panel screws. I even lost one. Colt sent one out right away, and now they're tight and lock-tited.

I've shot a bunch of assorted HP ammo, along with about 350 rounds of JHP, with no complaints.

Denver... Still not quite sure I follow you, can you elaborate on your sighting method?

My first tendency, when I got the gun, was also to shoot low. This has been reported by nearly everyone that has fired the New Agent. I found I was trying to look at the trench site as if it were the rear site on a conventional pistol. This was causing the front end to drop, since - with no front sight to focus on - one tends to focus on the aperture, which of course is at the rear of the gun. If you can remember that you must see the "floor" of the trench, you will have a level gun. Of course you don't concentrate on that, but it breaks your focusing on the rear of the gun.

Great range report Tom and congrats on your first 1911! Sounds like you've got the trench site pretty well firgured out. Hope to see some pics.

Hmmm... I was always trying to line up the break between the back of the trench and the front trench where the ejection port breaks the two apart. I was under the impression that if both were lined up, then the gun would be level..... so if your goal is to "see" the ramp, your almost tilting the gun up just a little no? Anyone have a few pics of their site line they could post? ;)

Your method would probably accomplish the same thing I'm talking about. When I say "see" the floor of the trench, that's all. Just the point where it's level. Not where the front is up.

When I first said imagine looking through a tube, think about if you put a piece of tape along the top of the entire slide. The trench sight would now have a top. You could look in the hole at the rear, and out the front. If your target was what you were seeing, the gun would be level.

I shot the NA again yesterday. I started of with my carry ammo.

Winchester 230 JHP's (22 rounds)

Then I loaded up with Blazer 230 grain FMJ (50 rounds)

I had (1) loose Blazer Brass 230 grain FMJ.

I had an old box of Corbon 230 grain JHP's and loaded up (7 more rounds).

The pistol went bang every time. 80 more perfect rounds. All shots at a measured 21'. I'm getting the hang of the gutter sights. Here are a few pics.

I fired one of these Colt Agents once, about twenty or so rounds, and had the same finding. My first couple of shots impacted about 7-10 inches below point of aim. What I found that worked for me was to look over the top of the slide and place the muzzle edge of the trench on point of aim so it looks like a crescent shape on the target. As someone else had stated, the floor of the trench itself should be visible through periferal vision as you look over the top of the slide. This also somewhat puts me back on the "never lose your front sight" concept. I was able to make accurate shot placement easily to about 25'. Hope this helps.

I have to agree. Finger on the trigger is a little disturbing. But that is just me.....

My finger is not on the trigger. As you can see the finger is relaxed and forward. Your right though. Trigger finger should have been on the side. The slide saftey is on.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Never point the muzzle of gun at something you don't entend to destroy.
