Does anybody know where I can find a hex-head mag catch lock? I checked the usual sources (Brownell's and MidwayUSA), and they did not have it. I also checked with Ed Brown (use to make them) and the Kimber web page, but no luck there, either.

Do you mean on the left or right side???
I see a couple of lefts in Midways Master catalog....

Right side (the mag release would be on the left for a right-handed shooter).

Go to MidwayUSA and type in product # 794-284.
The catalog does not show the right side, so perhaps a phone call???
Not sure if you can pull up their Master catalog # 31, but, if you can, P 484

That is for the mag release button; I'm looking for the mag catch lock (on the opposite side of the mag release button).

I believe most makers quit producing them as the hex screw easily wore out with normal take down use.

Thanks for the heads-up. I figured if it worked for the grip screws, why not this? But then looking at it, I guess the fact that it is so much smaller probably has a lot to do with that.

I haven't seen any on the market in about 6 or 7 years now. I used to get them from Dare Gun Room, used to buy parts from him all the time until he closed up the shop. I still have them on several 1911's. They do use a very tiny hex wrench, that can be prone to stripping the hex, but they sure look alot sharper than the flat screw lock. I would be very interested if there was someone still producing them, I'd sure throw them some business.

I sent out a few more emails, so I'll see if I get any good news. If I do, I'll let you guys know who makes them.

Ok, here are the replies I got...
Ed Brown: has not made them for years.
EGW: does not make them.
Wilson Combat: makes them for their guns, but does not sell them after-market.

I must have gotten about the last 4 or so that Brownells had--and I'd better use them judiciously :D

I called Kimber today, and the guy on the phone (besides sounding annoyed with me), said that I can buy a complete mag catch assembly on-line. I went back to their web page, and only saw the mag catch, not the assembly. Oh well, if some complained that they kept stripping, anyway, I guess it is always better to go with function over fashion.
