I just happened to be in the right place at the right time .The CAPTAIN who carried this during ww11 passed away and his widow consigned it to a small spring gun auction .I made sure I was there. No one knew what it was .

Quite a score, my friend, quite a score! I think that's the oldest one I've seen yet, very interesting how different the pony looks.

Very nice Keith! That's definitely a Sunday Going to Church Gun!
Dumb question, how does one differentiate the USMC ones from the rest?

Only by serial # number ,the USMC PISTOLS were all marked MODEL OF US ARMY 1911 ,unlike the NAVY GUNS ,they had no special markings showing them to be USMC GUNS .

That's because we're not used to such "small" guns like the M1911. LOL
