New Thompson Custom

I picked up my new Thompson Custom yesterday. It is a sharp looking pistol except that on the bottom of the frame near the trigger guard, they forgot to finish polishing the area, so it doesn't have a mat finish in this area. I cleaned and lubed it last night. It was very gritty inside of the pistol. I took it to the range today, I fired about 75 rounds including 5or 6 JHPs. No problems with feeding or ejecting. The trigger pull was very heavy probably about 6 pounds. I dropped it back at my gun dealer to install an arched MSH and lighten up the trigger. I am pleased with my pistol. I got it to round out my collection.

I would definitely clean the grit out of the inside of the pistol. It can create all sorts of problems. I also suspect that the trigger will do a bit better once you clean things up.

What model of the Thompson Custom did you get? I just want to tell you the the matte finish polishes out well if you prefer the nickel plated look. I have had mine for about three years with no major problems. I also had a trigger job done on mine. One thing I experienced was a problem with the slide stop and had to replace it. My Thompson is my daily carry weapon. I have the CAF model with the aluminum frame and the lighter weight makes it perfect for carry. Thanks for your welcome. I have the all steel model. Mine needs some work. My gundealer checked the trigger and it will have to be replaced. There were a lot of metal shavings and gunk around the trigger. The breech face was not polished. He has sent an e-mail to Thompson about all the problems. Mine has a very low serial number the last two digits are under 20. Hopefully Thompson and Kahr will stand behind their product I hope this isn't an example of their normal work product.

Well this has been a real experience. My gun dealers e-mail was never answered. My 2 e-mails were returned as undelivered. My gun dealer called Kahr but could never get through. I called and spoke to customer service. They advised they would give me a return authorization. I told them my gun dealer was shipping it back. They stated he would have to call. He called again but could never get through. He left a message, but no one ever called. I finally wrote a 2 page letter to the President of Kahr. It was mailed Saturday morning. Someone from Kahr called me today. He explained that there phone system was having some serious technical problems. He apoligized for the communication breakdown. But not all the problems, I had with their pistol. I told him I had two concerns. The first was how this pistol got past their quality control. I told him that I expected them to correct the problems. The second was if they could polish my pistol to a bright finish. He stated that he would do this for a $100.00. I told him that with all the problems I have had that they should refinish the pistol free. He told me that he would check the pistol and perhaps they could do it for free. I will let you know wht happens.

I got rid of this pistol a couple of weeks after I got it back. Kahr did not address all of the problems I had with this pistol. If you get one be prepared to do some work on it. It is a good looking pistol, but I am not impressed with their quality control. It was accurate and feed with no problems but the trigger needed work.

After more than one failed factory attempt to repair, I had to pay a private smith to get the gun to work.

I always clean a piece well before the first range trip- mine was actually suspicouisly clean. I added the TC grips shortly after, and I am very happy with them, as well.

I have over 5 k rds. thru my a.o. it is ugly,scrathed up,rattles like the silverware drawer ,but shoots every time!

i bought a 1911tc when they first came out.the gun made a trip back to Kahr but it was easy to fix if i had checked closer.the firing pin plunger was rusty and stuck.got it back,put a match trigger in to take out the up and down play.works great now.
