A Rock Island Arsenal reworked pistol with Major Gilbert H. Stewart stamped Colt receiver and a Ithaca slide with the High-Standard barrel. Seems to be legit to me, even with the added stampings.

OD,
The markings on the right side of the side, M1911 US Army, seems unusually inconsistent in alignment and stamping.

Wow, that's a sweet looking RIA re-work, OD. Thanks!
If only that old pony could talk, she looks pretty spiffy with the Ithaca slide they gave her!

I just happened upon this one, wasn't even looking for a rework, I was thinking along the lines of a new 01918.
They do look a lot alike, amigo. ;)

THat has to be one of the nicest untouched finishes I have seen OD.
And in all the time I have been on these forums, I never thought you bought any 1911s, I haven't seen a pic from you before now. :p
So many stories that will never be known....

Looks very nice OD. Great find. Are you going to research the name on the frame and get some more history on the gun?

Thanks Garrett.
I know a little on GHS now, Major Gilbert H. Stewart was an Inspector of Ordnance from 30 Sep. 1914 thru 12 Jan. 1918, his stamped can be found on Colt M1911s, SN 101,500 to 230,000 and on models of M1907, M1917, M1903 at different periods.

Those dates would match the frame, so it's a WWI frame, but I thought the Ithaca didn't come into the mix until WWII. So the frame made it through at least 2 wars that we know of?
And still around and kicking almost 100 yrs later. So much for brand G's claims, huh? :p

Right, it's a Colt receiver, that was originally inspected as a complete pistol in 1915 by Gilbert H. Stewart.
The pistol went through refurbishment at the Rock Island Arsenal where it received it's new top-end. ;)
It also has a parkerized R-C-R magazine, Risdon Tool & Machine Co. R - on top lip of base, C-R on bottom lip of base (subcontracted for Colt).

That's indeed a Jim Dan-dy! Very nice example and interesting pedigree. Can't blame you for jumpin' on that one.
Are you going to do the Humpty Dumpty MSH on that one too?;)

Dan that is a fine example of a rebuilt 1911. Looks like it has been well taken care of.
When do you plan to at least try it out?
I am sorry I did not get back with you today but still having a little computer trouble.

Thanks Lee.
I hope to be able to take it out this Friday, last Friday I was testing out my old two tone Colt (the one I had with me in Conn.), after a parts change, I plan on it being one of the pistols I take to the Vicker's class.
I was good talking with you yesterday, it had been to long.
