Hi,
I m from Belgium,I'm new on this site and I'm in the Belgium army , in Infantry
Yesterday somebody give a 1911 A1 .
It's an Ithaca production, from 1943 I think, because the number is 1446609.This pistol stay in Belgium after december 1944.It was found in the "Ardennes".
It looks like verry good conditions.
I'm asking a question, an ithaca is more rare than a colt or a springfield???
Sorry for my English but my first tongue is French.
Thanks for your response

Hello Gaëtan, welcome to the forum. I think the experts here will ask to see pictures of the gun before any response. Besides, i'm sure we are all interested to see a 1911 A1 found in the Ardennes. So, please, post some pics. You can see how to post pics here:

Thanks.

You're welcome. I have a Colt M1911 A1 built in 1943 that come from Germany and was probably a lend-lease to Soviet Army before they invaded Germany. It has all the markings from colt and the army and also have proof markings from German dealers after WWII. If you're intersted this is the thread: http://forum.m1911.org/showthread.php?t=32004

Welcome to the Forum. Your Ithaca was 1st shipped from Ithaca to the Commanding Officer, Raritan Ordnance Depot, Nixon, NJ. on May 8, 1944. It was part of a 3000 pistol shipment. On April 25, 1944 it was packed in Case # 2703 along with 50 other pistols and is listed on page 6 of the packing slips. The cost of the pistol was $36.00 each and a total invoice of $108,000.00.

I think that the value is due to the conditions of a weapon more than the brand. I'm sure that when you post the pictures experts will tell you about the value of your gun.

Redbull,

Welcome to the Forum.

In production quantity, Ithaca produced about 335,466, Colt produced about 575,632 and Springfield produced about 25,767 during WWI only. It would be harder to find a Springfield in good condition than a Colt or Ithaca. I would like to see photos of your Ithaca.

The Singer Sewing Machine Co. are the most rare collectors item. Remington-Rand produced 1.03 million. Ithaca turned out 370,000. Union Switch and Signal Co. produced 55,000. And Singer Sewing Machine Co. produced 500 1911A1 pistols.
