I have an XSE LW commander on the way to me. The slotted hammer has to go and be replaced with a round hole hammer. My question is who produces the best Commander hammer? I have a re-issue 70 that I have a Pistol Dynamics hollow core hammer on that is made from o-1 tool steel. I may use another PD hammer but I see EGW has barstock round hole hammers. C&S has a nice looking one as well as Berryhill but they only show the Rc hardness and not the material used in them. I see on the Colt sticky that they also use bar for hammers. I take "machined from tool steel" with a grain of salt after buying a Brown disconnector and then later finding out it was machined from a tool steel "casting". Sometimes shopping for 1911 parts can be darn confuseing.
Thanks!

Dave Berryhill without a doubt, try his round Commander hammer and you'll remember me.

Thanks John, I may give him a call and ask what they are made from. He is in my neck of the woods here in Texas. And please forgive my error in the post above. It was the Brown strut, not the disconnector that is a tool steel casting. I realized my mistake when I went to the website to order another Brown disconnector.

Good suggestion from John.
You might also want to ask Mr. Berryhill.
Replacing the hammer w/o at least giving thought to replacing the sear and disconnector is kinda like washing only one hand.

Oh yes....I will more than likely use the same sear and disconnector that I used in my series70 which is the C&S "Extreme Duty" sear and Ed Brown "perfection" barstock disconnector.

I put a Berryhill ringhole hammer into one of my old commanders (had some kind of oblong monstrosity in it at the time) and it dropped in perfectly without any drama at all.

All of the Ultimate hammers are made from bar stock tool steel. The "standard" ring hammer and wide spur hammers are made from castings.

Thanks Dave. I just left a phone message for you with my contact number so I can order an Ultimate ring hammer.
gfavaron-I know what you mean. This LW XSE has a bunch of monstrosities that have to go. All because Colt could not (would not) offer thier NRM '91 Commanders with a LW frame.

The XSE series is just a response to what Colt thinks people want on their pistols. Nobody ever asked if people prefer the traditional looks or the modern monstorsities, as you say.

well got e-mail conformation today that berryhill ring hammer has been shipped. Thanks for the heads up on it John! Been talking to Steve Morrision over at Specialized Armament about a NRM Commander slide, he said it should be drop-in. But I will have my smith double check that. I hope to have it on the way by the first of the week.
Thanks!

So you want to get rid of the ... front cocking serrations? LoRL
While some people are lucky, don't count on any part being drop-in, in the 1911 world.
