Are there any marking on a 45 to show if rebuild has been done and were? Mine was made 1941 and i would assume its been overhalled at some point.

Most were marked by the arsenal that rebuilt them. However I read the other day that they weren't always marked. Some marks are SA, AA, and RIA. I'm sure there are others but I don't them all. I have a RIA rebuilt Colt that was made in 1918. You can see where it is marked just above the trigger on the frame.

SA and RIA are usually marked on the right side of the frame and AA usually on the left side. What does it say on the other side of your slide?

If done in a Base or Field unit as opposed to an Arsenal or like facility it will not be marked with rebuild identities.

On the flip side, arsenal marks don't necessarily mean the pistol was rebuilt either. I have a blued original-finish Colt M1911A1 with RIA marks on it, yet it was apparently never messed with. It apparently was inspected, declared good to go, stamped and sent back on its way.
