Is there a down side to having a gun hard chromed does the heat from the gun discolor the chrome

No, I have a Govt model and a Commander that Virgil Tripp hard chromed the slides on and have never noticed any type of discoloration of any type. I find the hard chrome is extremely easy to clean, it looks great and is one of the hardest surfaces you could have on a handgun. Naturally after firing there is what appears to be discoloration on the slide by the barrel bushing area but it wipes right off and leaves no permament marks.
