Been saving up for a Les Baer TRS for sometime. How does this pistol compare to a Nighthawk. Is there a Nighthawk that cost close to the same? Pistols about the same or a big difference. Thanks.

I have a TRS and shoot it regularly. It's my favorite. There's a world of difference between a production gun and an LB weapon. But I really like the Nighthawk products. I've shot the Predator and the Talon. I found the NH has cleaner frame lines, a few more features and an even smoother trigger. In short, I believe more work goes into the NH. AND you can order a NH product anyway you want it while others builder's won't do this. I have a Talon II on order and am counting the days til she arrives. Regards

I handled a Talon 2 at a gun show today and was very impressed. Too bad really......now I have another gun to pay for in my future somewhere.

I couldn't agree more. I owned a TRS in Hard Chrome, great gun. I just like the features/feel of a Nighthawk Custom more.

I owned a Talon for a while. It was an excellent piece. I just couldn't stop thinking about my buddies TRS I shot. I ended up selling the Talon and bought a TRS. I could't be happier. The Enforcer is in the same price range as the TRS. You can't go wrong with either!

Thanks for the great comments on both the TRS and Nighthawk. Of course you realize since you loved both of them, some people will have to go out and get one of each now just to check em out. :) :) :) :)

My Nighthawk Custom Enforcer just arrived last Friday. I took it out and put 300 rounds thru it Saturday and Sunday. It is a fantastic pistol. Extremely accurate, tight fit, and none of that "break-in" feel that TRS have. A friend has a TRS and I have shot it, in my opinion The Nighthawk has a "better feel". It just depends on which one you like better. I will say when I was doing research there were alot of TRS posts saying it needed a break in period or had to be sent back for repairs or adjustments.

Also the customer service from Nighthawk was first rate, kept me up to date on where my pistol was as it was being built.

I have 2 Baers (PII and Concept VIII) and 2 Nighthawks (Talon and TalonIV). Love them all! My Baers were a world of hurt to break in; probably more than they should have needed, but that's Les Baer. If anything, Talon is more reliable out of the box. Talon has more options and are most beautiful, unless of course, like me ,you have a love for the almost forgotten art of 'blueing'. I know, everybody talks about the tougher finishes now days, bla, bla, bla. Trust me, there will come a day when a first rate 'blueing' will cost mega bucks.

Craig, are you reading this? (really nice Nighthawk customer service).

Dirt,
Just wanted to let you know that you can order a Nighthawk pistol with a blued (yes true blueing) finish. Contact Craig and he will fill you in on the details.

I think my Christmas gift to me for 2006 will be a Talon, but I need to wait awhile........unless I hit the lottery or marry a very rich man.

I'm going to have to get another job or stop reading forum posts.

Get two extra part time jobs, one to pay for the extra guns and the other to pay for accessories and ammo or reloading stuff. Of course you won't have any time left to shoot now so send it all to me, I'll shoot the guns and ammo and report on the fun factor!!!! ( ;) Y ;) )

John, 5 Months???!!! Are you actually in Greece? And which are you waiting on, a NHC or LB? I've had my NHC Talon II for about 2 months now and couldn't be happier, hard to believe it can be as tight as it is and so smooth at the same time. So far its eaten everything I've fed it with no complaints. Excellent workmanship and customer service.

I've never even seen a LB that I know of, but I can't imagine they're any better than a NHC.

Yes, I am actually in Greece, and I am waiting for a NHC Talon. The deal I have with NHC says that my pistol will be build, some time in October, so I suppose that I'll have it as a Christmas gift. LoL, man, my wife delivered the twins in almost the same time!

John,
What kind of hoops do you have to jump thru to get a firearm imported over there? Are the Greeks pretty strict about such matters? Or are you US Military and get to bypass some of the red tape?

That'll be a whopper of a Christmas present, but I hope you get it sooner. Obviously here in the states things move a little quicker, I was originally told it would take 6 weeks to get mine, then 3 weeks, then I ended up getting it in 2 weeks! I was on the road going on a long weekend vacation when my FFL called and said it had arrived. That was a looong 5 days!

Lets hope your Talon will bring you at least some of the joy I'm sure your twins have!

Well, things are not easy, that's for sure. The pistol has to be send to someone who can import it in the country (or I shall import it myself). The most funny thing however, is that it is not even sure that I can own it. At the moment, the legislation allows me to have two centerfire firearms, which I already have. So typically, I can't own a third one. But we are awaiting for a change in the law, which (rumours have it) will allow us to have more. If this happens, it won't be too difficult. If it does not, then I'll be forced to sell one of my existing firearms to get the Talon.

That's why I have to immigrate to Vermont, before all this makes me crazy!

John,
OH NO, not Vermont!! Justing kidding, beautiful state and good gun laws but I couldn't handle the winters. I'm in Georgia, and have been for 38 years, and I can barely tolerate the winters here. The older I get the colder I get. Planning to retire to southern Arizona in 10 years or so, I hope, unless they get contaminated by California, or the climate there drastically changes.

I've heard that some European countries don't allow citizens to have firearms in military calibers, apparently Greece is not one of them, or does it have to be a current military caliber? That does kind of suck that you're limited to 2 centerfire guns. Here's hoping the law gets changed. Work just called and need something rushed so I'm outta here, take care.

Sorry I guess I've highjacked the thread, will stop now.

LoL, I understand, I can't stand cold either. Greece does not allow its citizens to have guns. Only athletes can have them, so I am an athlete. My sport is shooting, and if I do not do a certain number of matches every year, here goes my license.

Bless your constitution my friend!

In my opinion, the Baer has a nicer fit and finish.

After comparing about a half-dozen Baer's and Nighthawks, I think the Nighthawk has a better fit and finish. I don't know about the NH Polykote finish compared to the "Bearkote", and I have nothing but respect for the Baer guns. It's nice that Baer has 10 models for sale in CA, which is more than NH, though I know NH has several that are in process. On the other hand, at least NH has 3 of their finishes (colors) certified in CA, whereas with Baer it's only the one. Both guns are impeccable quality - it comes to personal choice about models, finish, and what feels good in your hands.

There is an article in the recent Custom Carry magazine that explains the "perma-cote" finish and how it is applied as compared to other finishes, very interesting. The article is about the GRP, or Talon I can't remember.

I like all the newer finishes I've gotten my hands on, though Kimber's might be a little too slick for my hands, even though I like the look - feels almost like teflon. Any are better than the chalky parkerized black look, though a nice bluing is classic.

I read a post from a Nighthawk owner who said his Polykote finish wore through after a couple dozen holsterings with his kydex rig, which was disapointing, but probably says as much about kydex as it does about the newer finishes - nothing can really stand up to friction over time. I ended up buying a Wilson Combat holster for IDPA that is kydex on the outer, with a leather liner and hopefully that will be kinder to my new Talon in Sniper Grey. If not, I may just get it hard chromed and have done with it.

Yup, kydex is hard on the newer finishes. As are the rivets on a pair of Wranglers as my Roguard finished Kimber found out (in a Yaqui). Now I stick to all leather holsters for all but Glocks.

I own a TRS, have put well over a thousand rounds through it without a single failure to do anything! I have been on the phone with Craig and Ron at Nighthawk Custom and will be ordering a Talon with this years tax return.(so much for another trip to Vegas). The TRS is to date the best gun I've ever owned, but everything I've read and seen about the Talon has my blood boiling. I guess I'll form my opinion when I've put several hundred rounds through the Talon. Will let you know my experience in the not to distant future.
