I am new to the 1911 as I was just given an older colt but am very happy with the way the gun feels and shoots. I am looking to buy a newer gun so that I can avoid using the "piece of history" I was given as a regular shooter. Obviously not a simple question but wondering if people have some advice about which make to go with. I will mostly be using the gun at the range and am not involved in any competition (yet).

Thanks, Rich

Welcome to the forum and the 1911. If you like the Colt gun you have now, why not take a look at another, just a newer version. There is nothing wrong with a Colt.

Depends on your price range. A Springfield Milspec would make a nice basic pistol. If you want, you can add features later.
