Wasn't sure if this belonged in maintenance or not; go easy on me Tom. Dumb question, I guess. My first FO front sight, and I shot the rod out. Just got a new rod in the mail and the maker said it would come with installation directions. It did, it says "gunsmith installation recommended". Thanks Les!

Anyone have anything more descriptive that might help me do it myself?

moyler, Good one! That's not nice.I believe that type is installed by melting the end, if it has a knob on one end put it through from the backside and melt it with a clean flame, carefully. I use my crack pipe torch. :D

Thanks Log Man, I thought the melt treatment was the one. I did several searches in a couple forums but couldn't confirm, thus the dumb question. The new FO rod I got was 2 inches and no ends on it. I will cut it to size with fingernail clippers I guess. And as for the melting, it looks like I picked a h3ll of a time to stop smoking crack.

I stick the uncut rod through from the back, let about 1/16" stick out the front, and melt it into a bead. Then I turn it around to put that bead at the rear, clip the rod to leave 1/16" showing, and melt that over to retain the insert. Then put a drop of Super Glue at each post to keep it from kicking out so soon.
