Are there any good gunsmiths in the charlotte, nc area that dont charge an arm and a leg?

About the only decent one I know if in/around Charlotte is Tommy Abernathy in Mt. Holly. My understanding is that he mostly does race guns and I have no clue about his charging. Might be worth checking out though.

1911Tuner lives about an hour north of you. He's as good as 1911 mechanic as you'll find. He usually only charges a little conversation. PM him and check his schedule.

Agreed. 1911Tuner is my go to man for understanding anything about the 1911. I have a gun with some basic work done by Tommy and his son Jeff, top notch! It is correct that Tommy does race guns. Dave Salyer in Rock Hill does bullseye guns and there are several more in the area.

What are you looking to have done?

Someone that can show me how to correctly detail strip the gun - $100.00 to the first person that can personally teach me.

Dude, don't pay someone $100.00. You will be unhappy when you see it done and realize it takes about 3 minutes to detail strip. Where are you located? I am in NE Charlotte by the Universty area. I can meet you and show you. Or you can follow this example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZQITBWdUtw

+1 to what has been said so far. If you just want to know how to take it apart and see how the innards work, do some reading on here and meet up with one of our members, it won't take long.

If you want to be well on your way to a masters degree in 1911ology, drive up to see Tuner and spend the day with him. That's what I'd do if I was in NC.

If a detail strip demo is all you need...Shoot me a PM for directions. I'm within 3.5 miles of an I-85 exit...and 60 miles from the 85/77 junction in Charlotte. No charge.

I live down by Carowinds. 1911Tuner has spent hours with me and not charged a dime. I'll return the favor forward. Shoot me a PM if you are interested.

Not yet, balls in his court. If he shows up soon I can show him one well past the "detail strip" level. :) My Sistema project is coming along nicely. Even though my first buling job doesn't quite make the "beautiful" grade, it's lovely to me.
