Do they do good work?

Did they ever return your phone call?

I've heard good things about them through the grapevine

Or do any of you know of a good gunsmith in the PA, MD, DE, and DC area?

I've had them build a custom front sight to fit an odd-ball dovetail, and I've had them turn a ramped barrel into an unramped barrel. I am very satisfied with their work, prices, service, etc.

I had them fit a Fusion Match 9mm barrel in my RIA 38 super. They had to weld up the feed ramp and vertical impact surface to get to proper specs. I also had them fit one of their bushings and firing pin stops.

The gunsmith performing the work called me to ask questions about some issues and he did a fantastic job.

The pistol functions 100% and is now a tack driving 9mm. Price was very reasonable, too.

Give George at EGW a call. You won't be disappointed in their work.

just like anything else, some people like them. some people don't. egw is about 15 minutes from me, i would rather send a gun to california to have it worked on than let them.

I have had them work on 2 of my 1911s. Some amazing people and I would not use another 1911 shop, since I have been totally happy with their work twice!

Had some trigger work and some exterior metal work done to my full sized GSR and some major surgery on my C3 to bring it up to speed (I received a call and was advised that I should send it back to Sig for the work under warranty. I said nope, you do it and I will pay. If Sig can't build it right--or close to right-- from the beginning, I didn't want them messing with it again!

Or do any of you know of a good gunsmith in the PA, MD, DE, and DC area? From all reports I've read, heard and seen, they do excellent work. I've used their parts and they are top notch. I have two shooting buddies who have had a laundry list of things done by them in house. The work I've seen is flawless and the guns are as reliable as reliable gets. EGW gets 10/10 in my book.

Arguably one if not the best 1911 smith on the planet, lives in Watsontown. Jim Garthwaite has been turning out amazing examples of craftsmanship and artistry for 30yrs. He is pricey and his wait times can run long, but when you see your pistol, you'll see every penny spent.

EGW cut a front dovetail and installed combat sights on a slide for me. I sent them the slide and the sights, 75.00 and 3 weeks later I had my slide back. The work was done well and I'd have them do it again. :)

1+ on the above. Sent them a slide to have sights installed on. Machined the slide, furnished the sights and shipped it back for 157.00, not bad in my opinion, always answered emails and phone calls.Work was excellent. :appld:

George welded a Gov't Model for me- cracked at the slide stop cut out. Fixed a few other of my "gunsmithing" errors (charged me not) and it has been great ever since.

Many big-time pistolsmiths send stuff to George for fine welding.

They did a bunch of work on my Dan Wesson, and the work is flawless. Top notch outfit all the way!

NMaxx, your opinion of EGW is interesting to me. What was your experience? I live in California and have had 4 pistols worked on by EGW. I have two BHPs that they have done extensive work on, a Springfield Lightweight Compact that they installed a steel feed ramp insert, and a Kimber 1911 cutomized by Dane Burns and Chuck Rogers that I sent to them to get Etreated. All of my experiences were excellent with good communication, high quality work, reasonable turnaround times, and fair pricing.

Well, Walt (not sure of his last name) at Atlantic Guns in Silver Spring, MD has built two 1911s for me, and he is quite talented. First custom 1911 was a Caspian Recon kit...a big box of parts, which I brought to him with a custim "black stainless" finish by Springfield Custom. I haven't shot it yet, but he put it together quite well (note: the custom machining of the serrated extractor and slide was done by Eric Zinn in AZ)

..BTW, EGW makes great barrel bushings, including this custom engraved part with a special order recoil plug with the Caspian/"C" logo...

...Second project that Walt built was my old M1991 Colt - but with lots of custom parts...(i.e, Cylinder & Slide SFS trigger system, Kart NM barrel, Dawson light rail, Teflon coating, etc, etc - I just got it back this month, 300 rds and counting with no malfunctions...looks better than expected)

...Walt's work is not exactly cheap, but he's almost as much as a perfectionist as I am, which is a good quality for a gunsmith. Good luck!

Hi

EGW is good on the phone, the communicate well. They are up front about what can and can't be done. They have come through 100% every time they have done anything for me. I currently have a pistol headed their way. Right now the wait is about two to three months ...

Hi

Nice pistol.

Bob

Thanks, it's my plain-clothes duty pistol and all that I carry off duty. It's a good shooter!

I have not had EGW do any work for me. However, when George Smith was shop foreman at Behlert Precision he made his first 3 chamber comp for me, fitted the comp and barrel, fitted his large mag well and his thumb ledge. Many local shooters had full house comp guns by George (no pun intended). His work has always been first rate.
At my home club one shooter came up to me with a gun rug. Inside was a Caspian 9x21 (no 9x23 back then) open class ipsc pistol by EGW. It was without a doubt the best pistol I ever shot. Soft recoil and so little muzzle jump you could see the bullet hole appear on 7 yd shots. If I had the money it is exactly the pistol I would have built. He said he listened to me and had George build it the way I talked about how I would get EGW to build mine.

For comparison I have shot top of the line pistols by Clark, Wilson, Baer, Nastoff, and Liebenberg and Accuracy Speaks.

This was so long ago that Doug Koenig was shooting for Behlert Precision.
