Does anyone have any experience with Mark Volkmann, used to build for Ed Brown. He is now building his own 1911's in Colorado. Handled one today... will no doubt go back tomorrow and come home with it. Feels very similar to Wilson, Nighthawks, and Browns.

I have not bought one just yet but I agree they look and feel very good. The guys at the shop are great and I have done a lot of business there on other guns and I trust the team there implicitly.
Let us know if you decide to purchase. I don't think you can go wrong with one of these though. Personally I think they will see a lot of interest and the guns will go mainstream in very short order and values will increase as they are discovered by a broader audience.
Good luck,

I picked up a Combat Commander with the bobtail. I had Luke switch out the VZ Gatorback grips with the VZ Diamondback grips... he fitted them while we all waited on CBI. I put 500 rounds through it this morning without a single problem. Fitting is tight, trigger is crisp, and it seems to hit the steel plates even when I feel like I have missed them. A GREAT shooter, I put it right up beside my NHC T3 and my Wilson SDS. I still carry my Kimber Eclipse Ultra II more than any of the others, but I am more comfortable with the Kimber, a lot more rounds down range. George is great to work with and I will be taking some of my other guns to Luke to "fine" tune. If I can talk him into working on them.

Well sounds like you dove right in and are being rewarded for it.
I agree on George and the team all of them are great guys and it's a great shop with what I'm sure will be a great new high performance home grown gun line.
Congratulations again.

I picked up two. They are better shooters than my Les Baer's and Ed Brown's. Both were perfect. Once the word gets out on these guys their going to take off. Real pleased with both the gun and the service. Good guys that will talk to you over the phone.

It's been over a year since visiting this site. Life gets in the way of my love of 1911's and I had forgotten just how much knowledge and experience is evident on this site.
I plan to visit the Volkmann shop someday soon. Anyone have any specific offerings by the company they might suggest I consider. I need a good 5" gun and may consider trading in my Springfield Champion Operator for a Volkmann carry piece.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I just ordered a Combatant Carry today with a few custom features.
As to which model to buy, you really can't go wrong with any of them as they are all top quality pistols. I think it really comes down to your personal preference and of course whether or not you want a standard model or you would like to personalize it in some fashion. I suggest you talk to the guys at the shop and let them help you through the discovery process as they are very knowledgable and very enthusiastic when it come to making folks happy.
Best of luck and keep us posted.

What custom features did you feel were important?

I went with a bare slide,no logo or model name (this may change as they can add just the log to the rear side of the slide under the rear sight), top of slide serrated and the rear checkered with matching sight. night sights green front and back, sliver medallion on cocobolo grips, chamfered and checkered slide release (the right side typically a half round bead), solid trigger, and logo on the guide rod cap.
I have not yet decided on the finish but I am thinking I may opt for the all no polish hard-chrome.
Overall this is going to be a very clean looking gun and should feel a lot like a bar of soap in the hand when finished.

Sounds great. Thanks for the details. I would imagine it will shoot extremely well and look great too. Congrats!

Well I have almost 1000 rounds though my Volkmann now and realised I had forgotten to report back on it's performance.
Overall the gun shoots marvelously, with very few issues. There were some initial problems with the slide not locking back after the last round, (1 out of every 4 mags) and the trigger on a couple of shots was left at half cocked but a quick trip into the folks at Volkmann and this thing is in top working order. I'm not an expert by any means and have only been shooting for about 6 month after a 15 year break. I have never been a competition shooter and probably only have about 5000 rounds to my name so please take that into consideration when reviewing my targets. Any severe criticism should go to the shooter not the weapon.
First Target kind of self explanatory 100 rounds at various distances on a single target.
http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii60/dskjl/volkmanntarget1.jpg
Second target much the same but I thought I should separate the distances to better exemplify my shots. 7 rounds per target.
http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii60/dskjl/Volkmanntarget2.jpg
Finally I thought I would add some pics of the gun with it new mags. I ordered Some Wilson 47d mags with the low profile aluminium pads and modified them to fit the gun to include having a buddy bead blast them to match the frame. I also thinned them down quite a bit and shaved the back of the pad to match the bob-tail. I also fit the front of the pad to the front strap and reworked the hole at the bottom of the pad to include removing the Wilson name. The other mag is one of 3 that come with all Volkmann firearms, they work nicely but I wanted 8 rounds rather than 7 and something a bit more custom.

That seems to be a straight shooting pistol. And clean too, good choice on the build. thanks for posting the big, crisp and numerous photos. It will help me decide what I want on my next Volkmann! The chrome really helps show the awesome fit of their custom guns.

Thanks for the feedback. It's got 2500 rounds through it now and the last 100 were just like the fist.

Thanks for the info. and follow up, I ordered one for myself yesterday through Mr. George Horn, great guy and very willing to share his knowledge and answer any questions about their guns or any other. I picked them because of the good things I've heard about them from their gun owners....I will post picks in 4 to 6 weeks upon arrival, should be quite tricked out....

Just got home from ordering my new Volkmann. Due to this forum, I found Luke and the Gun Room. A great group of guys. Luke came out from the back room and helped me(and my wife) with just the right set-up for me. He understood what I wanted and even helped me along in the right direction when I wasn't really sure how I wanted it built. Now the wait begins!
Combat Custom, black, plain slide with logo stamped on rear, green front site with yellow in rear, logo on guide plug, and silver logo on blue/black VZ grips. It will be a very plain, clean gun and will be all mine. Can't wait as people have told me they shoot like a dream. Thanks for pushing me in the right direction.

Have had too much on my plate, but will post pics tomorrow. Can you believe, my wife made me buy my own SD card so I wouldn't ruin her pics on the one in her camera? It looks great and seems to shoot to point of aim. Put 150 rds thru it Wed night, but had a little stick of slide and found a very small piece of metal, it looked like a tiny bit of carbon, that was making slide stick open. Flushed, oiled and she ran like a clock. No more problems.

Good looking gun! The all BLACK is really clean looking. The logo on the back of each side of the slide really looks clean as well.
Maybe we will see you on the range sometime (greenmountain Family Shooting center is where I usually shoot with my son).
Congratulations again!!!

Cherry Creek, I took a look at the site it looks nice.
What is the Tube?
Thanks,

This is a little off topic, but "the tube" is a 100 yd indoor below ground rifle range with three stations, two for righties and one for lefties, with crono screens and extraction fans. Very nice for developing loads and tuning up for dogs or big game.
