What are these Colt's?

They appear on the California Approved Handgun list, http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/ , but nowhere else, not even on Colt's website.

Colt: 01991AR Custom M1991A1 (America Remembers) / Blue Steel

Colt: 01991Z Custom M1991 A1 (America Remembers) / Steel

Sadly, I live in California and can only drool on my keyboard as I read through the forum and gawk at photos. With such a limited selection for Cali, I would like to find out what those two guns are. Cali leaves me with such few options that I may decide to not buy a Colt, cuz I cannot get the Gold Cup Trophy, Series 70, Special Govt, or the WWI replica.

If you were unfortunate enough to live in California, which Colt would you purchase off the DOJ list?

Those sound like some sort of commemorative, perhaps made up for one of Colt's distributors like Davidson. At a guess, I would expect them to have some fancy scrollwork on the sides, but inside they are going to be standard 1991 pistol.

The XSE pistols are on the CA DOJ list. I don't like them because of such "amenities" as front cocking serrations on the slide. but they are on the list if such things ring your chimes. The DOJ list includes the four pistols I would recommend to you: the standard 1991 series pistols. The list includes both the 5" and 4-1/4" (Commander) models in both stainless and blue.

O1091 - Government model, stainless
O1991 - Government model, blue
O4091U - Commander, stainless
O4691 - Commander, blue

Of the four, my choice would be the model O4691, the blued steel Commander. It's the ideal form factor for an all-purpose 1911, they are very well made, and they are quite affordable. No frills, just a good, solid pistol.

Ah, yes.

Nothing like paying $2,000 for a $700 pistol.

Thanks for the info.

I prefer a naked slide over all that jazz. But I guess if had a ton of money laying around then I might buy a couple of those Colt's to use as fancy bookends.

I agree 100%....I personally don't care to much for the commemorative releases.

They just scream SAFE QUEEN. That said, if it floats your boat then at least it is still a COLT!

Not withstanding the front serrations, my XSE has been one of the best out of the box Colt 1911's I have ever purchased. My first purchase was early 1970's.

The Interpol SAA doesnt look bad. It has that vintage engraving look to it. Although I'm sure it is still overpriced.
