Well I was at the local gun shop - just went by to get some Hoppers #9 - and sitting in the case "was" a LNIB - (never fired) - but taken on trade - SS Colt Gold Cup-Trophy Match - ummmm "lets take a look at that" - no box or extra mag - well I have a box of extra mags - and no box - just less plactic to store away - very tight fit and finish - not a scuff or scratch to be seen - ummm - enhanced slide with the serrated flat top!!!! "Hey - I am in a good mood - I will make you a deal you can not refuse" $850 she says - (before taxes) well now another Colt will be in the safe - on layaway -
This is the closest picture I could find to the actual pistol that I am getting.
Should I keep going or give it back?

Very nice. I have to agree, it is hard to pass up a colt in a gun shop. I couldn't do it yesterday myself.

I think that's a darn good price for that gun! Nice purchase!
Yes sir, the "Colt" strain of 1911itis is a particularly viril one...a disease that commands respect at all times ;). While there is no known cure (other than buying a larger safe), we do have the benefit of coming to the "support group", aka m1911.org :D.
Hope to see some pics of the new Colt soon!

MAN oh man - I hear ya - so many variations on the Colt line - I had said NEVER - going COLT - cause I know how addictive a 1911 product line can be.
It will be the middle of April before it comes home :(

Congrats on the Colt. It's true the Colt strain of 1911 itis is one of the worst, you'll be thinking of Colt's day and night before long.

Longslide, I picked up a used Gold Cup national match. (pic posted in the colt thread above).
Going out in an hour or so to pick up a few boxes of round nosed lead. (230 gr)As I want to shoot it tomorrow, but with the weather I will most likely be forced to shoot it indoors.

As with most things, the operator will determine the actual intrinsic accuracy of the weapon. I would be tickled pink with 2" and under, but I have to work really hard when testing guns for the Ezine to wring out some good accuracy figures.
It's horrible when you are 18 in your mind, but 58 in the body!!! :scared:

I would expect a new GC to be anywhere in the 2" to 4" range at 25 yards with the occasional gun that will do better and sometimes one that does much worse.
My series 80 GC wouldn't keep 5 on the target at 25 yards when it was new. (match ammo, rested shooting position)

Hi
If it's anything past about .000025" at 1,000 yards it's not worth keeping. Please forward it to Bob's Home for Inaccurate 1911's for proper disposal. :D :D :D
A reasonable one should do 2" groups with good ammo. You may have to fiddle a little to work out what load yours likes or does not like. Often they will tighten up a bit with a new bushing. A lot depends on the specific pistol.

Nice gun you got there Longslide. I was also bitten by the Colt virus, but recently I got cured. I had several colt's but I got rid of all of them except 1, my nice bright stainless gold cup national match. It might be hard for some people to hear, but I'll never buy a Colt again.

I really looked it over before I made the "put it away for me" decision. Please the Gun Smith - said it was really a great fit - compared to some of the newer production pistols - thought it would be a a good one - plus they warrant what they sell. So I feel pretty comfortable about it. I have ordered a EGW bushing for it. The GS will fit it (the fit is included in the purchase price) not the cost of the bushing however. :D

Hi
What ever they did or didn't do on the bushing end, the EGW bushing will fix. If it locks up tight at the breech, you'll have a good shooter.
Even it the fit at the breech is a bit wobbly, it may still be a good shooter. A lot depends on how consistent the breech end is.
I certainly would not sneeze at the prospect of it being a top notch pistol.

Hi
Where are you at?
Around here, brand new Colts are generally under $1000 unless you want something fancy. If nothing else there's internet purchase and transfer via a local FFL.

Hi
Well they are indeed made of gold, but gold's only at $1,000 an ounce :D
I'm surprised that prices are that high. If you were over the boarder to the west I might understand it, but not in AZ.

you know i think a large part of it might be just where i live i bet if i went to phoenix id probably find one cheaper, but my thing is that i want a specific colt and if i go down there with the intention of getting one and cant find one, ill be looking to buy the first thing that catches my eye. And ive pretty much decided that impulse gun buys are a bad thing because as sure as i spend the cash on something else ill see what i wanted to begin with the next day with all my gun allowance gone.

Hi
Out here the larger gun shows are your best bet for finding a deal. They do indeed create the "blow your allowance fast" problem though.
