View Full Version : I need some reviews on IWB leather for 3"

Looking for some good or bad reviews on a good IWB leather holster to fit a Colt Defender and occasionally a Springfield EMP. I have no experience with leather as I've been carrying in a Desantis nylon holster. I've been looking at the Comptac MTAC and like designs. I'm a jeans and untucked t-shirt/polo type guy so the better the concealment, the better for me. Thanks for any help!

Hi

There was a thread last week that went over this in pretty exhaustive detail. The bottom line seems to be that people like Milt Sparks IWB's a lot. I don't have much direct experience with them in a 3", but that should change later today when UPS gets here. :D

You don't happen to have a link to that thread do you? I looked back a bit but didn't see anything 3" specific. Seems like a lot of people are looking for the Milt Sparks stuff on the forums I belong to I've never heard anything bad about them, hope you like yours too!

I've been using a Bianchi Professional IWB (leather) with my two Paras, one is a 3" and one a 3 1/2". It is a store-bought holster, not custom fitted to the guns, but it works very well and you can actually get one without waiting for months. Seems to me that because an IWB squeezes the gun between you and your belt, a custom fit is not as important. I just bought a BearClaw Covert Assignment, which is a Kydex tuckable, for my 3" Carry 9. It is custom-fitted and is perhaps a bit less comfortable than soft leather, but it does conceal very well under a tucked-in shirt without a cover shirt or jacket.

wgppp - That is what I'm really interested in hearing. I have a holster ordered from Crossbreed that I am probably not going to like so I'll end up taking advantage of their two week trial and then trade it for another model. I really want something I can pick up off the shelf and not have to wait on at all. The other thing I forgot to mention was I want something that has a body shield on it, or at least a piece of leather that will cover up to the safety. I'll look in to the Bianchi.

Hi

I ordered it from Brownels on Monday and it got here today. They have some of them in stock. That was the main driver for me picking the particular model. I'm still looking for other stocking dealers.

Oh, gotcha. I looked at Brownells for a minute today, but not enough time to do anything. I had been trying to trade a Galco Fletch, made for a Glock on other forums I belong too, but there wasn't much interest so I ended up trading it for a Wild Bills IWB for the Glock. I'll probably never carry my Glock, but I couldn't get any bites trying to trade for a 3" 1911 holster. Buying outright is something I can't really afford to do right now, especially if I don't know if the holster is right for me.

The MTAC Has worked great for me with my "New Agent" .... I'm in Florida and wear an untucked shirt with jeans or shorts... I wear it about in the 2:30 postion along with some sort of undershirt...I really don't think it's really "Tuckable" for me, it looks like I have a goiter on my hip...lol maybe it is more tuckable depending on body shape...

Hi

CCW is always easier if you have a *lot* of body to conceal things on.

Ok, let me throw this out there, MTAC or Sparks VM2? Take into consideration the price difference and the two weeks vs. 26 weeks in delivery.

Hi

The VM2 *may* be available through a dealer. I can't tell you who, because once I find one I'm ordering mine before I let the world know .... :D

check this guy (http://www.nm-holsters.com/) out. I emailed him my order this afternoon, and tonight i got a confirmation letter stating his starting of my project tonight, and questions on specifics. I went with a #2 and a #3 (holster and mag holster) in saddle brown. $56 after shipping for both. he came highly recommended from thefiringline.com

TheReeves
6th March 2008, 23:15
Hmmm, nice holsters. How did you decide between the #1 and #2? I carry more at the cant of the #1 but sometimes have a problem with the grip sticking out the back of my shirt. #2 looks like it would solve that problem but seems like it could be too extreme at the same time. Either way, this guy may get my business because of his price and quick shipping.

I actually changed my mind late last night. I changed to the #1 due to it riding a little lower than the #2. Nick says he favors the #1 over the #2. The guys at TFL like the #2. either way i'll do a write up on it when i get it.

Hi

I suspect you almost need to get one of each and see how your loaded weapon balances in each. I'm sure all of them are close to "neutral" on the belt.

Well, thanks for the link, I ordered my NM holster today after much consideration between NM, Comp-Tac, and Milt Sparks. I went with the #1 in black to match the gun belt I am waiting on from Crossbreed. They should be here about the same time. If Nick makes a good holster, maybe I'll order one for the Glock too.

I just wanted to update this and say that after ordering my holster from Nick last Friday, he wrote me on Sunday saying my order was complete and shipping the next day (yesterday). I hope to see it tomorrow but I need to check my faith of the USPS sometimes, because it gets my hopes up.

If the holster is as good of quality as Nicks customer service, he'll receive many an order from me in the future.

i got the same email. as i refuse to deal with paypal, it'll take me a tad longer to get it as i had to priority mail him a USPS MO. If his quality is the same as his customer service i've got three more sets he'll be doing for me.

Well I got my hopes up today and it didn't arrive. I need to get it into my brain that a four day average is a better estimate for the USPS. Anyways, I can't wait to give a review, I'm going to review another holster I ordered from Crossbreed in another post.

Hi All:

I have spent considerable time reading this forum in search of a good IWB. Based on several opinions, I ordered a Milt Sparks VM2 two weeks ago. The order confirmation said that it would arrive between 20 to 26 weeks. Sure hope it is worth the wait!! I am putting my trust in you guys ! Sould see it some time in August.

I have a couple Don Hume IWB holsters - 1 for J S&Ws and 1 for my New Agent, OACP, Defender and SA Ultra Compact. I am very satisfied and you can get on in a couple of days. Now they even have them at my range. It also fits my Wilson KZ Compact.

pfortypflinter - Can't speak from personal experience but from what I hear, you ordered one of the best available. Let us know how it does for you, at the end of the year!

DenDen, if your ever in the Columbia area, we should head out to the range!!!!

Milt does make a great holster and so does Del Fatti, but with Del your looking at 20-24 months wait. (He's a one man show)

I just received my "The Answer" IWB from Tucker Gunleather to carry my COLT New Agent in and I gotta say, It's the most comfortable IWB holster I have ever worn. I carried it this weekend wearing a pair of cargo shorts. It didn't even bother me when sitting in my truck seat and just walking around, it was easy to forget I had it on. My wife was surprised when I was getting ready for bed because she didn't even know I was carrying.

Rob is a nice guy to deal with so if you're still looking, check em out!

Hi

Which clip option did you get and would you get the same one again?

IWB, or any other type holser I've ever tried, is the Tucker Answer. It is my friend, and my daily carry solution. It has passed, "the nap test," more times than I can count. It is simply the fastest, most comfortable, most stable, most concealable holster I have ever tried.

Here's a link to my old review. (http://forum.m1911.org/showthread.php?t=18292&highlight=Tucker+Answer)

Hi

Thanks, they seem to have a lot of options and I'm not quite clear on how well their version of each one works.

I've got a Del Fatti IWB for my SIS Ultra... once my Kimber comes back from New York, I'll let you all know how she works.... first thoughts are that the leather is beautiful, and everything is put together very nicely.... top notch.
