Hello,
I was ordering some parts for a Auto-Ordnance WWII 1911 to replace some parts on my WWII Springfield - namely the mainspring housing. I'm wondering if it's also worth it to pick up a slide stop. The Springfield slide stop is MIM. Does anyone know what the Auto-Ord one is?
Thanks,
Ken

Hi

Virtually every MSH you will find is either cast or MIM (same thing). That includes the WWII GI parts.

Bob I don't think cast and MIM are the same thing.

Hi

Both casting and MIM are a method of taking metal and dumping it into a mould. The mould defines the shape of the resulting part. Done the wrong way both processes result in defects in the metal. The defects are similar and the results from the defects are also similar.

Indeed the way they get from point A to point B is a bit different, but there are more similarities than differences.

Just out of curiosity, why get parts from a AO?

Auto Ordnance parts are pretty good and they are inexpensive.
I like their arched mainspring housing with the lanyard loop.

Hi

I wonder who makes the Auto Ordinance parts?

I'm looking to replace the integrated locking system parts on my Springfield, but want to retain the "GI" look. AO parts seem like the best bet for this. I might even switch the hammer also, the AO parts are much more like the GI ones than Springfield.
