Does anyone know if the current production Colt, Blue Govt Model recoil spring plug captures the end of the recoil spring as it did on the old series 70 guns? I want to change my Govt XSE FLGR to the short style and like the recoil spring plug on my old series 70. If your thumb slips while stripping the pistol the plug wont take off like a rocket.

My Stainless S80 I purchased new less than 2 years ago has the notch.

Thanks for the fast reply Joe. I'll get a Colt part. Some of the after market ones I've looked at do not have the notch. It is a nice detail that makes the 1911 a little easier and safer to strip.

Yup, I like it too. It's a nice touch. Ol' JMB thought of everything, unfortunately everybody else knows "better."

I have purchased several genuine Colt recoil plugs from Brownells, both blued and stainless, Commander and Govt and they have all had the tab.

(One of them was to replace the FLGR on my Stainless XSE even)

Thanks Robert, I have a few items on back order at Brownells. I'll see if they can add a plug to the back order and ship it all together.

My 2005 and 2006 production 5" blue NRM's do not have the notch.

That is odd, because my 2006 production Blued 5" NRM does..

As does my 2006 production O4540XSE and 2007 Production SCGM.

I love the notch, and not just because I still occasionally launch unnotched ones across the room where they usually go somewhere difficult to reach or damage something. Yesterday was a blade on the ceiling fan. :o

I just got off the phone with Brownells tech support. They say the Colt recoil spring plug no longer has the notch that attaches the plug to the recoil spring. I'll call Colt after they return from lunch (1pm eastern) and see if that's true, and if they have any left with the notch.

Talked to Colt's customer service. They thought the Govt model recoil spring plug still had the notch. They gave me the names of 3 distributors of Colt parts. I called the first one on the list, Jack Frost. The person I talked to checked and said yes the little notch is still there. I ordered one and should have it in 2 or 3 days.

We need Hunter, Hawkmoon and OD on the phone to get Colt to straighten this out and put the notch back!!!

Interesting Brownells reported that. I received a Colt stainless plug from them just last week, and it too has the notch.... Also I think Colt gave you the name, Jack First, not Frost. I've done transactions w/ them before and would recommend them. They have some hard to find parts in inventory.

Yea, The girl at Colt's probably did say Jack First. I drove a Sheridan in the 6th Armored Cav many years ago, so my hearing isn't what it used to be :D.
The person I talked to at First's checked and thier Colt plug did have the notch, so I ordered it from them. The guy at Brownells said the Colt plugs didn't have the notch, but he didn't actually check one.

Got the rcoil spring plug from Firsts. It has the notch for the spring. I've got a pretty bad case of the flu right now. Once I'm better I can change everthing over and go to the range again. :D

Would it be possible for you to post the websites that Colt recommends for original parts?

It's funny, but on my NRM stainless Combat Commander, it had the notch on the plug. I'd never seen one before and called Colt and described as best I could the "defect" I saw in the recoil spring plug. I think I called it a "gouge". They apologized and said they'd send me a new plug, which they did. When the new one looked exactly the same as the old one I did more looking and discovered what that notch was for.

My mistake.

The girl at Colt's gave me 3 companys to try.

Jack First 605 343-9544
Gun Parts 866 686-7424
Cylinder & Slide 800 448-1713

I called Jack First and ordered from them since they checked and had the correct part. I never contacted the other companies, so I don't know if they have the plug in stock.

Mmm, 2007 Gold cup Trophy, SS, has the notch. It's the only recent production Colt I own.
