I am trying to determine the classification of a Colt 45 ACP. Its serial number is 70B38xxx. I can't tell if it is a "Series 70 Combat Government" or a "Government Model Series 70 Model O". The Blue Book doesn't provide the level of detail to make this determination.

Could someone please help me determine which classification this pistol falls within?

Thanks!

A Combat Gov't would be rollmarked such on the ejection port side of the slide.

Larry has one, maybe he will be along shortly......

Hi...I'm not an expert on this subject, but I do own an original Series 70 Government Model (the series was manufactured from 1971 to 1983). My research shows that during 1981 a range change of serial numbers began on Oct. 17, 1981, starting with S/N 70B00001 -780B-----). Without seeing the Pistol, at appears that you have one of the last original Series 70's manufactured prior to Colt introducing the Series 80's in 1983. The classification of the pistol is most likely the Colt Commercial Government Model with its "finger collet" bushing or the shorter Commander model with its shorter "solid bushing."

Yep, found out today that it is a Series 70. Thanks for your validation!
