My Gold Cup was not good for much when new, shot a group of over 3.5 inches at 10 yards with Federal match ammo when new. Trigger pull was measured with a fish scale. (12 pounds) Now it has a nice 3 pound trigger and shoots as well as my Rock River Arms Limited Match.

This looks very nice also. Are those all your toys in the background?

Yes thanks, those are all 44 mag revolvers. All wear Herrett stocks and many have action work. All the stocks are the same identical size, made to fit my hand.

My retailer narrowed my choices down to between norinco and the original colt, now i noticed that you have purchased the exact pistol i am considering. I hear a lot of weird stuff that colt has no precision, bad sights from the factory etc so if i may be so bold to ask you since you have trimmed yours for a close grouping(did you check it in, im swede and lack words, with the stead where you screw the pistol tight to check accuracy?), was it an expensice operation and what exactly did you do to your precious? eternally greatful for an answer since i will have this 1911 for a looong time if i buy it.
Cheers Joni

PS, Your picture links stopped working, it would be nice to check your pistol out =) DS

I took my Gold Cup to a gunsmith I know and first the trigger, hammer and all related parts were fit up for a better trigger. Since I only use it on the range, the series 80 firing block was removed. The barrel/bushing/link were replaced. The sights were left alone. A Colt ambi safety was alos installed. It was sent out to have the slide tightened. The gun is capable of doing inder 2 inches at 50 yards. For what I have in it, I probably could buy a new Les Baer today.

Boy, I guess I am just lucky. I have two Gold Cups and I love them both. My series 70 rattles like I am carrying around a truckload of soda pop cans but it sure shoots well. I could not ask for better triggers on either one and in fact, they are what I measure every other trigger against. They are both between 3.5 and 4 pounds out of the box and have zero trigger creep and break nice and crisp.

Way back in the olden days (1956), I was shooting on an Army Reserve pistol team. Being the newest shooter, an issue M1911 was all I got. Was doing well with it, got to trvel with the team, and was not a bench sitter when it came to scores -- I had potential!! A friend in the muzzle loader club had a 1939 Colt Gold Cup he didn't use, and loaned it to me. Well, guess who was number one shooter? ME!!!! I got laid off my job, and the new job ,which was from Ohio to Utah was several months in coming. My friend offered to sell be the Colt for $350. I DIDN'T HAVE $350!!! Oh, I just cried, that's what I did, I just cried!!!!
