View Full Version : How many hands?

Hi

I picked up a New Agent last week and of course had to see what was inside my new toy. As one might expect, it's a bit different inside than the good old JMB design. Putting it back together seems to be a task best undertaken by individuals with three or four hands.

Is there a trick here? Did I miss something or is the slide stop a bit unusual when it comes to putting things back together?

Wondering .....

Bob, don't feel alone, it is very difficult. The trick I found was to put the slide, barrel and recoil setup back together then slightly extend the guide rod out the muzzle and hook a paperclip over it. This relieves some of the tension put on the barrel link and makes it easier to install the slide stop. Once the slide stop is installed remove the paperclip. Hunter used something different in his review and I can't remember off hand what it was but the principle is the same. I hope this helps.

Bob,
Hunter used something that resembles the tool sent with the WWI 1911 reproduction, but as Landman says, anything inserted under the guide rod to relieve the pressure on the barrel link will do the trick.

Hi

I think I liked JMB's original design better. :D

I found that if you catch it *just* right you can drop the slide stop in without doing anything strange with the guide rod. It's not exactly easy to catch it at that point.

So does anybody make a holster for this beast?

Bob,

If you want a reasonably priced, easy to take off and on, outside the waistband holster that will also fit any of your other 1911's try a Galco Matrix M7X. These holsters are great. I have one for my Sigs and Glocks too. Here is a link.

Hi

Ok, that looks like it would work just fine.

Now how about something for CCW?

Bob,

The New Agent barrel is so short that in the Galco Matrix it is easily concealed under a sport coat, untucked shirt, etc.

If you want something inside the waistband I really like the Bearclaw Holsters. I have the Covert Assignment. I like the Kydex holsters for inside the waistband because it stays open and is much easier to reholster the pistol. Here is a link to it.

These are great holsters also for smaller pistols like the New Agent. You want to wear it over a tshirt though. They are washable too.

Hi

My concern is that a lot of holsters I have around here actually would make the New Agent *larger* when in the holster. Obviously that's not the idea. Ideally I'd love to find one that makes it smaller .... :D :D :D

You can always go with the "Mexican Carry"....the pistol won't get any smaller than that :)

I've used these before on Governments and Commanders. They work great. Haven't tried it on anything smaller though.

Hi

The only problem I have with Mexican carry is that you burp and the pistol hits the floor.

I've been wondering about some of the in-pocket holsters. The New Agent fits fine in the pockets on my jeans.

I am partial to belt slide holsters. Nice and small and you can get your pistol out in a hurry.

A belt slide holster is an outside the waistband holster that slides on to your belt. There are many different styles actually. The Matrix holster I posted above is like a belt slide holster except you don't have to remove your belt to attached it. It snaps on to the belt which is one of the reasons I like it. It also holds the pistol close to the body for better concealment.

Hi

Ok, I got one of them. I just had not heard that term before.

They do seem to be a lot more comfortable than the IWB stuff.

In the truest sense, perhaps. However, I usually see "belt slide" used to describe holsters that leave the muzzle exposed, differentiating from other holsters, like pancakes, scabbards, etc, that also "slide on your belt."

Yes, I have to agree with you. When I hear "slide holster" I immediately think of the Yaqui Slide like you posted.

The Don Hume JIT holster is a nice, reasonably price, leather slide holster. You can find them on Ebay very cheap. Here is a link to info on them.

Hi

The img tags should enclose an image. Strange ....

I did checkout the site, it looks pretty good. Which holster did you go with?

Halito, all. Yaqui, yaqui yaqui...ah, I use one every day, and while everyone is laughing at my ignorance it keeps all of the 1911's happy. Love the 1911, Illinois (lived there once, aint going back) and this forum.

What kinda jeans have pockets large enough to carry the New Agent? I wear Wrangler 13MWZ's and Carhartts. Neither one allows me enough space for my New Agent, and I don't wear my jeans tight.

Hi

Just dropped it in the pocket to be sure. It fits just in my Cabela's el-cheapo jeans. Of course they *are* a large pair of jeans.

I can't quite fit the wallet in the same pocket though.

Hi

I've been sitting here shooting at the TV (no holes yet) with the New Agent and with the S&W 340CT. The New Agent picks up and points right each time. I still find myself "squirming" as I pick up the 340.

The New Agent is making more sense all the time....

I tried my largest pair of loose fit Carhartt's today and I could get the New Agent in the front pocket, but It definitely looks like a gun or that I'm happy to see someone. :) The grip sticks out quite a bit from my rear (wallet) pocket.
Maybe I'm just not built right.

Hi

I'm reasonably sure they scale the pockets as they make the jeans larger. My guess is that a pair of mine has roughly twice the cloth in it as a pair of yours.
